Like the name suggests !!!

I have a GS 1200 WITH A FAULTY LIGHT SWITCH ... That is to say the full beam will not stay on unless i keep pressure on the switch.
As soon as i take my thumb off the switch i lose main beam.
Anyone any suggestions ?

take your thumb off "pass" and press it the other way:D

sorry..................................

I had that happen on my 04 GS - had a new switch under warranty. Actually I think it was the entire left hand cluseter they replaced.

Thanks for the reply. Mine is also an 04 model which i bought last year but i don't think any dealer would replace it under waranty now !

Same problem 2005 year.

Dip packed in first and now headlight only works by holding on. A real pain. I have been waiting for a l/h switch cluster from BMW for almost 3 weeks. "Not a part that causes problems so don't hold in stock in UK" Hmmmm Well that's two!! 'fraid it's gonna cost you a bob or two! I think the cluster costs about £110 approx!!

Thanks mate ... Spoke to Charles Hurst who reckon about £120 - £125 incl vat
Not Cheap .. Might try a breaker !!

Mines an 04 which I got last year and the switch failed a bout a month after purchace. Rang the dealer 'Jefferies', went up first thing one Saturday morning and it was all sorted.
If your bike is still under warranty then your dealer should just change it for you I would have thought.

Do people not take things apart these days? An indicator switch was a bit temperamental on an old bike of mine, so I took it apart and found a loose part... Tied it together with cable tie and it lasted me till I sold the bike. I originally meant it to be a temp fix, but it never faltered, so I left it bodged.

Saying all this, if you really need the bike working then don't play, but I'd be inclined to whip the switch gear off and check for anything obvious that's loose. Often its staring you in the face when you get in there.

Good luck with fixing this.

there is nothing to take apart in switch clusters on the 1200 bikes... They either go off or not.. I ve recently replaced the rhs on mine.. Bought a used one off a broken bike from james Sherlock (ad at the top of the page)... does the job. New bits are £150 per side.
