I'm looking at a 800, but the engine looks a bit tired. So this will not be done for performance gain, but just to recondition. Although the power of the 1000 is nice I find the 800 adequate. Also, this is for an ST, so I dont really want to mod it too much.
It's about smooth running, not performance

doing up an st myself and i will be taking the heads off to replace the push rod tubes,on a standard r80st is there any point in fitting twin plugs to the heads
Nicasil barrels dont wear much, if at all , so second barrell and pistons with new rings work OK.
Certain combinations of pistons and heads work better than others- Motobins know what works and usually have some for sale at reasonable prices.
My G/S is out to 1000 cc with OEM parts and there is no loss in smoothness once everything is tuned in - it just seems that the bigger engine is less tolerant to misajustment than the smaller one and everything has to be just spot on.
thought that seems to run fine for me as standard, starting to think i am just looking for ways to spend more money on it
going to leave it totally standard but in as new condition, then i will have a nice bike that is not that common
