Lime green oily liquid???

Help please,

Have just got home tonight and when I pulled up outside my house, I noticed smoke coming from under the rear of the bike just in front of the CAT.

When I looked closely I noticed a lime green oily liquid dripping onto the CAT & smoking.

It seemed to be coming from the nipple near the rear shock, anybody any ideas what it could be & if it is coming from the nipple, why?

It seems to have stopped now that I have switched the engine off, hopefully this is because of the lack of pressure not that the reservoir is empty :(
 
Update !!!!!

I have just been looking and there is a cable that comes out of the unit with the nipple on it that is the offending item & it goes upto the clutch reservior.

Have checked the level & it is still at max :confused:
 
I must admit that I have no idea......:nenau but if that green slime looks anything like this

Have you got ESA on the bike and if so could it be coming from a leaky rear shock or one of the connections ?:confused:

... got slime in the tyres ? You may be seeing 'throw off' from a puncture :nenau

I think you'll find it's hoses and not cables: try nipping them up with a hex key, bleed your clutch and see if that helps.

The clutch is not connected to the rear suspension in any way, so if it comes out of the the shock, it cannot go to the clutch reservoir.

Have another look and tell us what the pipe is.

It is coming from what looks like a clutch cylinder NEAR the rear shock, not connected to the rear shock.

The HOSE that comes out of the cylinder goes to the clutch reservior.

Wiped it all down this morning and have just come to work on it (52miles), when I arrived, I had exactly the same green fluid dripping onto the cat. It seems like it is coming from the cylinder or the nipple on the cylinder, have checked the nipple nuts and they are tight.

Next step call the BMW Breakdown and have it sorted or recovered, will post the outcome
 
From your discription I would suggest the fluid is V 10 mineral oil from your clutch slave cylinder, the nipple is actually a banjo bolt with a copper washer on both sides can be nipped up with a spanner. It is possible that either end of the cylinder is leaking but if it is the front end it normally leaks inside the gearbox/bell housing and would not be visable.
 
It is the clutch slave cylinder, spot on Dermot.B !!!

The dealer is sorting it out for me as I have only had it 6 days :( better to go now while under warrenty then when it has run out

The old style clutch fluid was green , the new fluid (in use for at least the last two years) is red.
