lock freezing up

Just a quick question, the pannier locks on the bmw plastic panniers keep freezing up, I'm guessing it's where the water sits on top of the lock overnight.
Tried spraying WD40 and silicone spray etc. over it, but it still froze

What's the best way to stop it happening?

dunno how to stop it, but if you're in a hurry to get the lock open and you're out and about away from home without a kettle to hand you can piss on it, works a treat.

Surely the next optional extra heated locks....

There is another way too... which is to heat the key using a battery

I'd pop the locks out, dry them over night and put them back with a light oiling.

or a lighter. I think the piss is probably a non starter, it may even run inside the case.

All good, but I work nights- so I don't think the boss would be too happy with me in the car park at 6 in the morning!!

North German winters back in the early 70's. On Border Patrol, armoured car tool bins frozen in the morning and piss was the only warm liquid we had to hand - so to speak

I've seen (on images of some ali pannieers) a rubber plug that inserts into the key hole, presumably to stop them filling with crud. If it is only the spring cover that is getting frozen them maybe something like this would work?

Does anyone know of these key hole plugs (for want of a better word!) and where to buy them? I could do with a couple myself.

My GSA cases have those lock covers but the rubber pegs are right little boogers to push in. The top case has a hard plastic cover that's much easier to fit.

Take the case off the bike and put it in the airing cupboard.

I have three Maxias on my FJ, all three freeze up. 10 seconds in flame with key, re-insert and twiddle gently, lock opens.

Simples.

I was told wd40 washes the grease out as well as the water.

I Just used white grease with teflon, in Joanne's mx5 car lock and that has worked fine.
Easy to see it.Although others say it attracts grit and causes wear
Just watch out for grease on the key the first few times.
Otherwise you will get it on your gloves and handbag like Jo)
