Lock wafers

Does anyone have some spare lock wafers i can use ? I bought a set of Vario panniers from a nice gent on here but obviously my key wont fit the locks. My local stealer wants £40 for two new locks and a further £35+ vat to code them. They tell me that you cant get the wafers separately is this true? If not does anyone have a linky to a site where i can get the said lock service kit ? thanks, Del

You used to be able to by lock repair kits that had all the tumblers in it but haven't seen them for a while. When I did mine I didn't need any new ones anyway, I just had to rearrange them so have you tried that?

Nope havent tried it yet, panniers are here but bike wont be home till next Saturday so therefore i dont have the keys yet. Was just trying to get ahead of the game so to speak. Would just be luck i suppose if all the tumblers were correct when re-arranged. You get 12 tumblers with each lock when you buy it new, just didnt want to spend £40 on new locks.

You should be able to rearrange the wafers, file a couple down, leave a couple out to get working locks, just don't loose the springs ok

Yup, just found the lock repair kit part no 51 25 7 698 202 £18.80 from BMW. One kit should be enough to make up both locks with all their tumblers.

Del, just take 'em in and have the dealer do it.

It's a doddle if you've done it before, wont take them more than 10 minutes.

I confirm it's a doddle once you have one in front of you. I recently did a set of six for GSA panniers. As mentioned there are only three shapes and they're numbered. I have a few 2s and 3s left over but no 1s. Work out what you need and PM me if I can help with putting any 2s or 3s in the post.

I haven't looked but there must be a web or YouTube tutorial you can check out to see what's what.

Bloody 'ell mate, sorry, I had no idea they'd charge you that much.

Thieving especially as your buying a bike from them, I'd be tempted to cut my nose off on this one and tell them to .... Well, maybe not.

Yes i found it Alex, no problems and ive bookmarked it. A repair kit can be purchased so i have a selection of tumblers too hand when the time comes but i may take dazlewis up on his kind offer when the time comes. cheers, Del

Good news guys, i did the tumblers tonight and i dont need any. I just swapped three in each barrel and hey presto ! sorted with all six tumblers in place.
