i have a system pannier that has the barrel in but no key for it, unfortunately it is in the locked position is there any way of opening it without causing any damage to the pannier not too bothered about the barrel as theses i have been told can be replaced

Not being an expert on lock breaking, I guess you have two options...
1) take it to a BMW dealer/locksmith for them to sort out
2) Drill it. Take a look at another lock to see how it works and give it a whirl. A new barrel is about £24 I think.
Having just replaced the barrels on my system cases, i can't think of an easy way of getting them out whilst the handles are closed...
