Some help please? Im trying to get the lower alternator pulley off so that i can get at the Hall Sensor. I need to lock the engine to unscrew the pulley bolt-according to the manual theres a hole on the left hand side of the clutch that will let me lock the flywheel but I cant find it! Where should I look?

just above the starter and towards the centre of the engine

Remove the sealing plug on the other side behind the right hand throttle body (CAREFUL not to push it in!!!)

take out plugs

Ignition off

top gear and rotate until a piston comes up near the top of it's stroke and watch in the window for letters Z comes first then S then 0 I think

The locking hole should be close by it's matching counterpart on the flywheel at this time doesn't matter which side it's on or whether it's the firing stroke as TDC is TDC on either side

Oh dear oh dear -

Put your socket/spanner on the large pulley nut (16MM), hold the end of it, turn the ignition on and tap the starter button = nut undone

The torque won't pull your arm socket out of your shoulder joint, a 5 year old could hold the spanner and do it.

Ha! Genius, Steptoe-fortunately I had a 5 year old to hand. The sobbing has now stopped but was well worth it (not the kind of tip you would find on Advrider). Now all I have to do is get the 3 rusty, rounded-off bolts out...hot air gun hopefully.
