Well finally got round last week to fitting my tool tubes to the GS.
I've had the tool tubes for a year or two , and could never find a nice way to fit them that suited me ..... Until !!!
<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/2Am9ky3oyyq2nlt3dSfH6hlFKsK7krHLqP1Jyn8CFHw?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-9EQoyczOxtk/TfYKDkXFTtI/AAAAAAAAHRQ/lJZbFaqcKpQ/s800/6.jpg" height="600" width="800" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right"></td></tr></table>
I had a load of Aluminium 'L' and 'U' shape lying. I made a forward frame , and mounted using the exsisting points of the Vario Mount Plate , although I had to fabricate (threaded Bar) longer nuts.
<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/w1t5QI3Xo2Qr8C2OrKEHLBlFKsK7krHLqP1Jyn8CFHw?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-P1FgWzAdQ8M/TfYKIYx2xaI/AAAAAAAAHRc/ZGxlMmB8N9Q/s800/4.jpg" height="600" width="800" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right"></td></tr></table>
This allowed me to not drill into BMW's expensive framework.
For the rear crossmember , I made a fram from Aluminium 'u' profile , and had to drill two mounting holes into the plastic vario mount plate.
<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/LCt37vWYbyq3qSoC79T6uxlFKsK7krHLqP1Jyn8CFHw?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-CLWzN-qbMrY/TfYKEtt8QtI/AAAAAAAAHRU/vY0fSZCjl8M/s800/2.jpg" height="600" width="800" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right"></td></tr></table>
I then sprayed the frames black , added a GS sticker , and 2 spare BMW roundels to the tool tubes , and also threw like keyed combination locks onto them.
The locks will stop oppoutunistic thieves.
I'm very pleased with them so far , ridden 1000 miles with them on , and they havent fallen off yet !!!
I've been asked by a few people at petrol stations/roadside to do them a kit , and am toying with the idea ......
