There's a bit of a theme here....
The Mercure in Le Mans city centre is really good. Secure gated compound and good rooms. When we got back to the hotel for a nightcap, the barman brought our drinks out to us plus a huge platter of food. Needn't have bothered with dinner.

Just checked prices for July and booked up
Le Mans 24 hour is June and no other major autosport event going on
Also stayed at the Premiere Classe Le Mans Ouest. At the other end of the scale in terms of plushness and cost, but does have a secure compound. I think we paid 40 euro including breakfast. Perfect for a stopover but not somewhere to stay for longer.
