I've just had this sent to me by a friend. I think it says it all so, no more from me, please read on:

Apparently Transport for London are receiving very few comments from motorcyclists about the new London-wide TfL trial of motorcycles in red-route bus lanes.

The latest news is that as part of the evaluation of the scheme 'users views' will be taken into account and 'numbers responding' will play a part in this.

Clearly none of us want to see a situation where 5,000 cyclists have protested and 200 motorcyclists support. It's this kind of thing that would shift the political balance against us.

However, cyclists campaign groups are steadily orchestrating a build up of resistance to the measure, being well organised at grass roots level in the capital and elsewhere. Tfl have already received large numbers of submissions from cyclists, opposing motorcycles in bus lanes.

We risk losing the scheme at the end of the 18 month period unless the motorcycle world demonstrates widespread support for the measure.

So I urge all of you who read this to use this link to visit the TfL 'user views' website and complete the response form, which will take only about two minutes.http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/roadusers/finesandregulations/motorcycleinbuslanes/default.aspx

All, if you're a member of any other bikers social networking site, could you start a thread on this? Please also use whatever other avenues for publicity that you have (owners clubs, other social networks, word of mouth, forward this email, etc).

The cycle lobby groups are motivated and determined. They see denying motorcycles access to bus lanes as a number one key goal. They have a strong and well motivated campaigning local network. They will do all they can to achieve their goal. Unless we respond to this, we risk seeing this hard won concession denied to us after the experimental period has finished.

The TfL scheme is being keenly watched outside London. Failure of the scheme in London will be likely to cripple our chances of getting motorcycles into bus lanes elsewhere.:blast

Too busy using them to send letters of thanks to the mayor.

TfL's road surveys and cameras will record useage (and abuse) with pinpoint accuracy.

Niec One Sam

It's obvious to all but the Greenies that want us out of cars that being in a bus lane with only a fraction of the traffic to contend with is a good thing so I signed it!

I used it when I was over and I felt safer If not a bit bewildered if It was okay or not!

My Feelings

Perhaps cyclist shouldn't be involved in cycling in the city unless on designated cycle routes when the volume of traffic is so high UNLESS theyhave completed a certificate of competence to ride a cycle in the Urban Jungle that is!

Everyone else has to have a licence to ride or drive why not cyclists?

Bump!

watching in Dublin with great interest. ;)

cyclists are cheeky feckers, they should remember that they are only guests in the BUS LANES, they are not cycle lanes. Pay road tax or feck off

As a regular cyclist on these roads I can safely say that the ONLY vehicles that should be stopped from using these lanes are buses. Driven by cnuts, the lot of them!

Thanks for the heads-up, Sam. :thumb2

thanks for that

Its so important to support this ... I wrote in too even tho' I don't live there anymore. Visiting bikers and so on should have their say too. Good heads up mate....Gura mie ayd :D

+1

Mind you it didn't stop one running me over when I was walking on the pavement :spitfire

I never know whether these petitions make any difference, but I also got the original email and it came from someone who until very recently was a prominent voice within the MCIA

so I figure it's probably worth doing..

Just done it!

"cyclists are cheeky feckers" "Pay road tax or feck off"

I cycle to work through the lanes where I live and that is where cyclist should stay! All those out on a Sunday thinking they are lance whateverhisname etc and riding two or three abrest should also pay road tax and have insurance just as anyone else who uses the road system! They seem to think they own the roads and BOLLO)( to everyone else!
I have had them try to overtake (still two abreast) when I have been carting grain in an 18 ton tractor and trailer too. I bet if they came a cropper in their haste I would have had the book thrown at me too! :eek

One of the most amusing thing I have seen in a long time was not far from home late last year when one of these Sunday racers appeared to have been knocked off by his own team car! He was sitting up but looking very P&*() off with the driver of the car! :blast
Rant over... :hide

Fresh news in from the City of London.

Cyclists (a plague and pestilence upon their house) are now to be allowed to cycle the wrong way up one way streets.

No change. All normal.

****ers the lot of them.

Apart from me farting my pushbike has no emissions and apart from when I scrape the ground after being knocked off by some twat it doesn't damage the road surface, so feck off with yer suggestions :dabone

If they abide by the rules of the road, no problem, but as mentioned above, three abreast road hogging not good, and same for running red lights etc Good to see the plod pulling them for running lights. They should also be pulled for riding wired for sound, completely oblivious to other road users and unaware anyone behind them trying to get past.

I use one of those every day in Bath Street, EC1. Well, obviously only once per day when I'm going home on my push bike. It works well, and I always make sure I stick two fingers up at all the other drivers coming the other way in order to encourage a feeling of friendship and wellbeing to them, just before I flatten the old ladies who forget to look before crossing the road. :)

Yep, agree with all of that (except the wired for sound bit :D)

I think I'm the only cyclist in London that uses hand signals, looks behind him and obeys red lights in London. They don't do themselves any favours, do they?

register as a cyclist that supports motorcycles using bus lanes. That'll feck the cyclist lobby.
