I bought some of these for my GS when they came out last month and I thought it would be helpful to share my thoughts. They are beautifully made items and clearly, a lot of effort has gone into their design and production. The packaging is also excellent - Apple-esque in fact!

However, I am going to take them off the bike this evening and put the OEM ones back on. Two reasons really, first, they slightly impair usage of the side stand which is an irritation rather than a huge issue. The bigger problem though is that due to their increased height, combined with the fact that I have a Wonderlich extender on my gear lever, the space under the lever is diminished and it has made gear changes slightly more cumbersome. So much so that riding is adversely affected as it slows the process of changing gear down considerably as you have to manoeuvre your boot into the smaller gap. This problem lessens if you remove the rubber inserts from the pegs but that isn't really a proper fix.

So not major issues but enough for me to warrant changing back to the originals. A shame because they look great and as I said, are beautifully finished.

Overall, a bit of a shame as I am a big fan of this brand and was thinking of getting their new rackless panniers but this foot peg experience has placed this in doubt somewhat.

Why not simply adjust your gearlever? That's what i did on mine.

I got some for my GS, so a big upgrade from the thinner standard pegs. Whilst the rubber insert did raise the foot rest height, a slight adjustment to the shift peg and it's been fine. I agree the sidestand is slightly harder to find, but i always push the footpeg back slightly and use my boot heel to push it out.

Just cut the gear linkage adjuster shaft down then raise the lever up.

I have thought about that. I have also considered switching the coloured pegs in them to allow for some forward tilt and facilitate gear changes. But decided to go back to the OEM pegs because the new ones are fixing a problem that simply did not exist before. No real need to change them.

Tried adjusting gear lever. Now won’t click into 6th when parked. Can anyone explain why?

I looked at them, and then poo poo’d them.

I want more leg room, not less! Anything that raises the foot position, to me is not great design. then there is the price, £229 for something that the standard pegs do perfectly adequately. They aren’t ‘flimsy’ they are wide enough and grippy enough when off road and changing them is purely for ‘bling’ purposes.

I like Lone Rider products, but they aren’t perfect (as born out by my experience with their overlander bag). Having said that, they did come through, in the end, with a service that is representative of the premium product (and price) that they sell.

Longer term I’ll swap my BMW aluminium panniers for Lone Rider panniers, but it won’t be the reckless system as I quite like the scaffold look on the GSA.
