I finally got around to fitting a migsel mount and wiring in my 2610, first time out with the GSP, 1mile to the tyre shop to trade the well worn T66's for new Tourances..

This showed the mount gives an excellent position and easy visibility.. however the longish arm.. (3" i think ) i got...does shake a fair bit, have people found a shorter arm more stable, less vibration on the gps..?

if so.. where's best to get one..

Opinions please.. cheers.. John..

Yep, I found the shortest arm (1.75", I think) reduced the vibes but not totally. Better than the 3" though. It also helps to have the arm as vertical as you can.

Picked mine up from GPSW whilst having a chat with RAM Man last year sometime. www.gpsw.co.uk

I started off using the 3 1/2" (or whatever it was) that I'd used to mount the SPIII on the handlebar, then replaced it with the 1 3/4" when I could get one. There was a slight increase in vibration with the longer arm. Check that you've got the arm done up really tightly - that can make a big difference...

ordered a short one..

Thanks guys. have ordered a 1.75" length ram arm from GPSW..
I bought my initial one from then and they got it to me very quickly..

Will let you know how i get on with the shorter arm..

Cheers John..

The RAM arm comes in 3 sizes:-
RAM-B-201-A is short (1.75" )
RAM-B-201 is standard (3")
RAM-B-201-C is long (5")

I have suggested for quick 'guestimating' measurements; use your thumb for short arm and your index finger for the standard arm.

If extending the standard arm, then use a RAM-B-230 double ball adaptor (I know it looks like a b*tt plug, but at least you'll remember it - and its thumb size which is useful) plus a short arm.

How do you know what a butt plug looks like Steve

:D

I've got the shortest arm on my Quest/Migsel mount and it still vibrates quite a bit off-road- I'm going to try gluing some inch thick foam inbetween the plate and the mount, with some loosely done up bolts and nylocks just to secure it.

I'll post when I've done it and tried it.

(And no, I'm not going to pay the stupid amount TT want for the same thing on their mount.....I've already spent enough on the normal TT mount  )

How do you know what a b**t plug looks like Steve ?

Bob.. I had it mentioned to me twice. Once by a forum member (who I assumed was more 'worldly' on these matters). The second, by a RAM marine user - who'se female sales team suggested its alternative use. Maybe there's an opening [sic] and opportunity, I am ignoring.

Short is best..

Well i found too things.. as per peoples advice, indeed getting the arm as verticle as possible has helped a lot in reducing the vidration.. usually pot holes, speed bumps etc.. not tried it off road.

I have the short arm on order and it looks like they tried to deliver it today, so will try it at the weekend. Should improve it further.

PS Fanum, clear your indox. its full.

Thanks once again guys..
