Long Way Around?

I have to say, most of the people I know that have slagged off Ewan & Charlie, have never travelled more than 300 miles on a day, have always done it on tarmac, and have never done it for 115 days on the trot (Give or take a few).

My wife bought me the "Long Way Round" on DVD last Xmas. Thanks Love :thumb

I sat me CBT on 5th March
Sat my test on 1st April. ( Intersting date for test )

Bought a Honda VFR 800 on 5th April.

Rode it from Dorset (where the owner lived) to Dundee (where I live) 550 miles on 23rd April.

Sold it two months later and I'm now the proud owner of 2002 1150GS. I LOVE MY GS.

Thanks Charlie, Thanks Ewan for bringing me back to the world of Bikes.

Thanks BMW for having the Bottle, Insight, whatever you want to call it to support the guys on their trip. :clap

And anyone who wants to have a pop at them. Well if you've ridden round the world, fine have a pop. But if you haven't, then KISS MY ASS. Give them the credit that they are due.

Well done lads and once again thanks. :clap :clap :clap

Get her.

This subject has been done to death. I enjoyed LWR but I'm sick of it now and I'm fed up of all the posing the series has spawned.

Time to move on ...

C'mon you guys....

Let's leave Charley and Ewan alone guys... they've done a fantastic job for motorcycling... and GS's in particular!

I know some of you might be bored with this topic. I am new here, I own a GS Adventure and I just finished to see the DVD, so please bear with me.
Below my thoughts about the movie.

• It was a success because of two reasons: (i) Ewan’s popularity and (ii) the fact that two “normal” people were taking such a challenge using Cheers

It was a success because it managed to persuade people that a trip like the one it was, is an adventure.

The one really interesting character was the cameraman, but unfortunately he had to video the bafoons instead of himeself.

long way round

Couldn't agree with you more Warthog. I enjoyed the series and think they do mpore than most bike riders will ever do, with or without support.

Yeh, It's spoiling it a bit. I'm sure I'll get it ...and the illustrated book (coffee table size!) but surely they must have relised that they had enough footage the first time they edited it!?

Cheers

I appreciate your comment retroman, but is it not possible that some of us are interested in the bike and what it can do rather than "posing". It seems that every couple of weeks someone takes a sideswipe at anybody new to GS'ing. Are all the 'old-hands' really that insecure. Who did they copy the idea off? I can't believe that R1 riders shoot down new owners with the same venom on their sites.

I live in North Yorks, can't think of a better place to own a GS?

Of course, I'm generalising.

... but living in North Yorks, you should have taken the plunge years ago!

You're absolutely right, but I was going through my mid-life crisis (early ,of course) and had an urge to do the Harley thing! Really enjoyed it but wanted something a little more ... fun. The HD is great at what it does, but after 5yrs HD'ing I needed more. I used to get snubbed at HD meets coz I didn't have the right gear or hadn't bought the latest accessory, now it seems as if I'm in danger here if I do! I love my bike and am looking forward to many happy years messing about in the dales and beyond. You're welcome to join me if you ever fancy a trip up this way!

Cheers
