has the potential to be long winded this!
1150 2000 model year, i have been chasing a rattly noise for some time now, throttle bodies rebuilt at scrimminger engineering, still there
modified left side chain tensioner fitted, still there
sounds for all the world like pinking, but still present when throttle is rolled off.
tappets adjusted to the n'th degree, side loading also.
the noise will come and go during a days ride, often returning after turn off and restart.
think i am going to have to remove heads, and inspect chains and guides.
any suggestions gratefully received. :nenau

Do you have engine protection bars? I read something on here about a certain make of engine bar which could crack and lead to a rattle at certain engine speeds.

Might not apply to you but it could be worth checking for rattling bolt-on's?

BMW 1150 GSA ones IME.

thanks so far guys, no engine bars are fitted, the mileage is 33,000 just returned from 4,000 mile Euro-tour.
running on 20w50 millers oil. Both injectors replaced as well as they were noisey and with poor fuelling when on dyno.
The motor has never run better, but this pinking/rattley noise is driving me crackers. :beerjug:
