Well, having lost both parents recently both of whom suffered from different forms of the dreaded Big C, I have committed myself to completing this years Longest Day Challenge - for those who don't know, its Lands End to John O Groats on the Longest Day (20th June) staying off of motorways and all on a bike that cost no more than £600 to buy.
So to that end, I have bought a 1996 Kawasaki ZZR600E and now, after fully rebuilding brakes front and rear, ultrasonically cleaning the carbs a number (!) of times, complete service including all fluids, plugs and filters, new brake lines, new tyres plus anything else needed the bike passed its MOT and is now nearly ready. Still not running at 100% but hoping a new fuel pump might be the answer.
So now the process of getting my 67 year old body ready! Longest ride in one day was 450 miles on my first GS so I need to get the miles in on a regular basis.
I have set myself a modest (?) fund raising target of £1 per mile = £1000 to help, in a small way, research to hopefully, one day, develop cures and treatments so sufferers can live longer and hopefully thrive. So to this end I have taken the liberty of attaching the QR code to my funding page for this event. Any donations received will (of course) be humbly and gratefully received from forum members. If this post is inappropriate I apologise and would ask moderators to remove it!
TIA!!
Bob
