What's the longest trip you've done?

If I can't sell mine, I will probably take it on my planned trip far east, but bit unsure with it heating up like crazy when it's just in an urban environment :D

Longest I've done to date was 1200 miles in 24 hours & then 5k itotal n the same trip to Greece.

I've had 2 S1000XR's both have done plenty of European miles in very hot weather we saw 47 degrees in Italy, never had any problems though both were decatted & mapped with Akrapovic headers and the OE Akrapovic silencer. Removing the catalyst removes loads of heat away from the bike and your feet. I do it on every bike I own.

While I'd like to have them - the cost of the Akrapovic one is unreal :D

But I might get a set of BlackWidow headers & some other exhaust and put them on.

Did a couple of longish trips into Spain round the picos then along the southern side of Pyrenees and home up through France

Bike was no problem at all
Plenty comfy enough as fast as you want

My mate has just fitted a set of Black Widow headers & silencer to his Versys 1000, he's very happy with them, the fit was spot on and they sound nice without being too loud.

Yes, my right shin got a bit scorched in that heatwave they had in central Europe a few years ago. 43C in Remich, Lux. I made the mistake of going for a ride wearing short boots and thin, cargo trousers.
It was also uncomfortable on a trip to the Pyrenees when it got to 35C. Part of the reason the XR went not the RS when I culled the fleet two years ago.

done plenty of short trips around Northern Europe, plus down to Faro.... which got a little warm.

Only had two hassles, firstly the ignition refused to go off, even with key in my pocket...... known fault , found solution on web despite a bmw dealer saying there was never a fault!
then a warning light that came on occasionally... bmw dealer in Aachen very helpful, straight into workshop and said its the exhaust sensor, "no worry its reset, but be aware some dealers would try and sell you a new exhaust to cure it, tell them to f%$£ off! no charge for this!

I've done 14k on my Mk1 2nd gen mostly in Europe only problem I've had was battery heat sinking (over heating and related power loss) in Italy. If I left the bike to cool for 30mins it would start OK it happen on 3-4 occasions once returning to the ferry. Once I read up on the problem I replaced the battery which was only 3 years old and otherwise worked fine. Never a problem again, it might have been down to a "cheap quality" BMW battery.
