Look who's copied the 800

I was looking for a Triumph forum, to tell them they are missing out on Muffs and Gauchos and came across this.

I recon it was designed by the same bloke :nenau

Val.

Yes Val its been chewed over in a few threads here..........

the 8 was the target, looks like a bulls eye for Triumph in looks, on paper, and hype.

:mmmm

but not realy been tested properly (outside of triumph cotton wool) :nenau

The proof will be in the pudding :green gri or the new owners of the 8 clone with possible teething problems to boot :augie

:rob

but i tell you one thing it will be a Triumph :blast

:D

I like it. It looks very much like my own lava orange F8GS.
Which means I'm more than satisfied already :JB

Yes but typical Triumph... it weighs a ton when compared to the 800GS!!

Looks like a 800gs, same price, heavier, less torque, unproven design, come on we all know it will have teething problems! will have to wait for touratech, wunderlich et al to make parts for it, in short supply next year. All in all that`s why I have just bought a 800gs, maybe in a couple of years it will be worth looking at.
One other thing the gs has a 21inch wheel as standard so you don`t have to decide if you only want to ride on the road or off it, unlike the Triumph.
Just read a test in Motorcycle Sport and Leisure and seems they are a bit biased , they compared the Triumph to a 1200gs!! or a 650gs, no mention of the 800gs!

Yeah! Radio 2's Jeromy Vine show's a bit like that.

It's heavier than the 1200GS :nenau and I don't give the front indicators long either :blast

I think the road version (17" front) is meant to go against the 650, except it's too high for most of the 650's targeted buyers.

Nah ... it'll not work ... not never

The exhaust is on the wrong side to start with, chain drive on wrong side too :(

:beerjug:

the frame of the Triumph is a tad on the ugly side, methinks, and the grey pillion seat isn't too impressive either

Well I wouldnt call it a ton unless you think the 800gs at 207 weighs a ton more that the f650gs at 199

as the togers are 210 and 215 :D :D :D

Actualy they saved the wait by making there own main need want parts aux lights amongst 55 developed accessories :thumb so they will even be coverd by warranty wheres the bmw lights for the 8/650 (anyone would think triumph read all the gripes here and took note :thumb2 :green gri)

actualy the gs has a 19 inch front option also, one of the reason why the 650gs is a better road bike than the 8, off road its a given 21 is the weapon of choice :thumb Mind so good a combination they put it on the 1150GSA :D

and yes its about time a magazine, put the 650 on a pedestal for a few seconds (after all the differences between 650 and 8 are subtle and plastic)

I like the bit where he wrote "probably one of the smoothest parallel twins there has ever been"

I think the reporter should be up for a knighthood

i reckon what happened was his boss said go and get one of the superior 798's Gs's :tosser and put it in the woth considering box :D :thumb :mmmm

Does heavier also mean more planted :nenau

you mean 19 front :thumb2 your looking at the wrong end :D

to high! have you seen the munchkins that ride 8's :D

you forgot to mention thesticky our rear peg/frame :D :beerjug:

I have just traded my Tiger 955i in against an 09 F800GS, after taking 2 test rides on the GS, to the disgust of my local Triumph dealer, he begged me to wait for the Tiger 800 to go on sale and take a test.

The reason I moved to the Gs was the fantastic fuel consumption my wife is getting from her F650GS twin and how much of a complete thrill it is to ride.

I asked the triumph dealer what the consumption would be on the tiger but he could not answer. Just went on how Triumph had the idea first, well before BMW. (Did I see a picture in the MCN of the Triumph in development with a GS in the background?)

I’m sure the motorcycling press will be keen to get the 2 bikes head to head as soon as the Tiger is available, but they have a big act to follow.

But I am happy with the change from Triumph to BMW, and can’t wait for the air temp to rise above freezing in Sheffield so that I can start to knock up those miles.

The Triumph is only a wee bit down on torque 79Nm instead of 83. The main difference is where it produces it, 7850rpm instead of 5,750 for the 800GS.

Weight is given as "wet, ready to ride 210kg" which obviously makes it a complete bloater compared with the 800GS at 207Kg.

It depends on whether Triumph are being a bit sly with the terminology. How wet is their "wet". If it's not full tank then the difference could be much bigger.

If you look at the other threads re the Tiger 800, you'll see that I've been seriously considering one.

Having seen it, I'm now slightly underwhelmed.

I wanted to move up from my 800, and this doesn't seem to be much in the way of progress. I'll reserve judgement for a week or so until I've ridden one. As the early hype was feeding through, I was looking forward to a detuned but bored out 675. The Daytona has a 125bhp, and the de-tuned Street triple has 105bhp, so that was the minimum I was expecting. 95bhp really isn't much more than mine (Bike tested the 800GS at 90bhp). Triumph say they've tuned it for torque, but it makes less than mine?

Having sat on the XC at the NEC, it feels pretty much like mine (that's a good thing). Quality looks OK.

210kg is for the standard Tiger 800, the XC is 215kg. You'd have thought it would be lighter than mine. It didn't feel any heavier though. Although it's hard to tell with a clamped down front wheel.

Don't forget the Triumph carries it's fule in a conventional tank rather than the underseat tank fitted to the GS's. This makes a significant diffrence to the handling carictaristics, especialy off road.

Do you really think your average 800 owner would ever notice the difference...especially offroad?

weight

Claims on ADV rider the the weight in the BMW spec is a lie (US bike mag as a source) and that in the real world the Triumph 1s 17 pounds lighter than the 800 GS.

Will test the Triumph before I pass comment on it.
