Looking for a better seat for r1200gs

Hey guys, I bet this question has been asked a million times before, however i was unable to find the info that I was looking for on by doing a search.


I need to replace my rider and passenger seats with something that is more comfortable. The problem that I am facing with the stock setup is that it makes me and my pillion slide forward. Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

Not tried it, but the demo bike at the NEC had something like it and it seemed quite non slip (compared to the stock ones) IMHO of course:

i tryed a sargent was not for me, it was wider but still had that hard bit at the back which digs into my bum, have now fitted gsa seat its a bit higher so run it in low setting makes it same height as gs seat in high setting.

I bought the tall version to replace my standard seat. Still comes with height adjustment, but the lack of slope makes for miles more comfort. I just couldn't justify taking a chance on a Sargent due to the expense, plus I sold the standard one here which took the sting out of having to try/buy another seat. Hopefully, you'll see the diference in the profile from the pic below.

Thanks fella's, seems like the tall seat might be the best option. I'll see if my dealer has one lying around that I can try out.

Are there any passenger backrests avaliable, or even a "sissy bar" for the GS?

The seat issue has been discussed a lot on the forum, just do a search and you will find enough to keep you reading for hours, but it's very much down to the individual as any solution does not work for everyone.

I decided to have my seats resculpted and have gel inserts fitted by Melvyn Hunter and both myself and my regular pillion love the results.

The riders seat does not dip twords the tank like the original and the pillion seat has been widened slightly and is no longer flat so the passenger feels more secure and does not slide forward on braking.

Concerning your other question rather than go for a seperate back rest why not get a decent top box with the option of a back rest? The one I have is a Hepco and Becker and even without the box the rack has an intergated "sissy bar".

Sloping and uncomfotable seat was a huge issue for me so I went down the high seat route and it has solved all my issues. You can even have it high at the front and low at the rear which really flattens it out.

I just adjusted the height of the standard seat, using the high setting on the front and the low settin on the rear. Has definetly helped... not perfect, but still better.

I would much rather a seat back that can be removed than carry arround a top box all the time. It is fairly rare that I have a pillion on the back, but when my girlfriend does come for a ride, i'd like her to be a little more comfortable. I'm going to manufacture a seat back for the GS and i'll keep you all updated.

Ok, dissregard my last post... I'm totally fed up with the standard GS seats. Just came back from a 300km ride today with the girl on the back. We were both so uncomfortable!! It was agonising!!

I am still in pain!!!

Smeggy how much did it it cost you ?

If I remember correctly, it was aprox. £157. Tho' I got £100 for my standard seat which took the sting out of the purchase. Still think I did the right thing tho'.
