Gents, I’m looking to plan a couple of weeks away next year in France (NW/vendee/Aquitaine) looking to Load up Car with family and dogs and stay in the same spot for the duration.

So the criteria would be, places of interest in the locale, a coastal area, a site/gite/house with a pool to basically sit near drink wine and eat the local produce and soak up the rays. I’ll need to entertain two 13 YO lads also.

Has anyone a good spot that they could recommend ? or some reading that I could begin to do some research with ?:thumb2

There are loads of holiday resorts on the Vendee coast. They seem to be loads of campsites. Also very popular with the French, which is always a good sign.

A few years ago, we stayed in a cabin on a holiday park near St Gilles Croix de Vie, which is a pretty town. The beaches are amazing, and St Gilles has a whole row of restaurants along the river. You can work you way down them over a fortnight, having a different mussels dish in each one. Amazing food.

Re the beaches: there are enormous expanses of golden sands, but if you're not a strong swimmer, you really do need to take note of the flags. I consider myself to be quite a strong swimmer, and was a lot fitter back then, but chose to ignore the red flags after a storm, and very nearly didn't make it back into shore. Extremely scary.

And even on a calm day, the little waves are surprisingly powerful and will knock your legs out from under you even in knee-deep water (which is fun if you're expecting it, but might be a risk for younger kids).

When you say Aquitane, I can help with the Dordogne as I live here. I don't run any sort of business, but have many friends who have Gites or camping sites.
I also know of all the attractions in this area and can help as much as you want.
If you were here for 3 months, I could direct you to a different place every day to entertain your kids.
