Wanted Looking for a decent MX5

We owned this one until a few years ago. Mrs P.E. is tiny and loved it. I'm 6'2" and 18 stone. I could get comfortable but it was snug.
We had a BBR 2OO kit on it and it was very brisk. Good tyres and 4 wheel alignment plus 30mm lowering springs give exceptional handling.

Exceptional (and cheap) fun on track. Top end speed on a track like Goodwood is it's only drawback, when duelling with Porsche, Ferrari etc ....

Mine is going in for a full suspension change early June ahead of a road trip later. IMG_2132.jpg

Hi all -

OK we have seen a car that is has an A1 exterior, engine, engine bay and interior. (We upped our budget quite a bit).

There is some corrosion to the chassis. It has been undersealed, which means it's not possible to really see what's below.

The MOTs have no advisories re corrosion, the most recent one being a month ago.

Any car of this age will have corrosion, I just don't know enough about MX5s to say whether this is acceptable or not.

Please, I'd be very grateful for any opinions. I'd like to get back to the vendor with a response today.

Cheers!

Paul our Mx5 is an ND so one model younger than this. However I dont think you need to be just an MX5 owner to comment. My concern looking at the photos is the rust seems to be underneath the underseal.

The main areas of concern on Mk1&2 ‘ was the rear quarter in front of the rear wheels where you couldnt see it until it broke through. Also the cills.

The one external body photo looks to be a tidy car. We were at an Mx5 gathering last Friday. The oldest car was a 17 year old model and still looked really well. These cars are rarely first cars usually second or fun cars.

I would ping Blackgold on here a message as his is a 2011 and states undersealed from new, ask his opinion or get some photos of his chassis as a comparison.

Sorry, but I have to agree that the underseal application looks more like an attempt at bolting the stable door after the horse has bolted. There’s plenty of visible rust on the areas where the underseal has fallen off, but what more is hidden?

We searched long and hard for a clean MX5 Mk3, before finding ours. Wishing you the best in your search, check out the MX5 Owners Club, a true community of anoraks who lavish true love on their cars.

Any MK II that hasn't been really well looked after will be getting to end of life by now. Too much rust in those pics for me. Every MOT would be a nightmare trying to get through. They are really an enthusiasts car willing to spend a lot of time and effort at that age.

This is Bernie's MX5 sold after 10 years ownership. No test due to corrosion and wasn't half as bad as that one in pics. Noticeable corrosion in door hinge area, front doors :ROFLMAO: Originally this was a clean Jap import and got comments on first couple of tests how good it was underneath . It was used as a daily and lived outdoors. She loved it!
