Morning all,
Anyone have any recommendations for hotels with secure parking for an overnight stop en-route from Santander to Porto.
Halfway between seems to be around Camarzana de Tara, will be staying off the motorways.
Many thanks in advance for any help
Rob

You can specify that in Booking.com.
I've been in Spain for a month now, in various towns and cities and parked on the street with the Abus granite on the front wheel all the time. No problems.

Thanks for the info. Have looked on booking.com and I seem to find if you apply the parking filter, there are a lot of "parking is available in a nearby location" comments.
Not really expecting any problems as they are small rural towns and not big cities but do tend to sleep better when in a secure carpark :)

I can highly recommend Hotel Toscana at Ojedo/Potes. Lovely family run hotel. PM me if you want their contact number.

Try Braganca, lovely small city. Stayed nearby, parked the bikes in the square overnight for a week. They were always there in the morning
Thanks Dave,
Looks ideal but 280 miles from Santander it's a bit of a push for us old boys now😂 We try to plan no more than 200-225 miles a day and be away a bit longer. Long gone are those Calais to South of France in one hit days, lol.

If you are avoiding motorways, stay further north around Ponferrada. Ride there via the Picos and Somiedo Nat Park.

The roads south of Leon go through pretty flat farmland and I rushed through on the motorway when I made that mistake on the way back from Porto.

I stayed here https://www.hotelponferradaplaza.es/EN/services.html in the new part of Ponferrada.

I and several Norwegians had to park outdoors as the underground garage was closed due to some renovation work. They were riding KTM dirt bikes and they did not use any locks. No bikes went missing. This was 2023 and the website now says indoor parking again.

If you want to be in the old town by the Templar Castle, then Hotel El Castillo is well regarded. https://maps.app.goo.gl/SbGioJTKZEVUPBTg8 on street parking.

There is also a Templar themed hotel with garaje shown here https://maps.app.goo.gl/P3bLzUgwcZoMepVcA

Thank you, that would be ideal for the journey back to Santander as we are doing one overnight on the way down and two on the way back.
Only mention about the parking as one of our guys had a really bad experience on his way back from the French Alps. Had his bike stolen along with two others from a hotel car park in Reims.

Cant believe people plan their tours around parking arrangements.
Paranoia gone mad.
Just rock up and chain the bike to something or put a lock on it.

The parking is outside the hotel but its safe and quiet, they also man the Hotel 24 hrs and keep an eye on the bikes. They are very good people. I've stayed there 8 or 9 times now. Short walk to some lovely restaurants and bars. They have a bar that is a cash/bottle bar, cheap and welcoming.

Thanks very much for the recommendation, that's a great help. Ideal location for last night before getting the ferry home (y)

Not really paranoia, but good to get recommendations from some fellow helpful bikers.
Trying to arrange for someone to collect you, bike gear and luggage from somewhere in mainland Europe should something go wrong, is no longer an option.
Being able to share personal experiences and knowledge on this forum is useful and helpful to all.

I know 🙈🤔

We stayed in the Borders last Weds night

Just chained the bikes up on the roadside, outside the pub in a village and even left the Sat Navs on the bikes

Still there last Thursday morning

In September we toured in France 🇫🇷 and in Salers just parked on the street, in the town square - same place 3 nights running

On the week’s trip nowhere we stayed had secure or garaged parking for the bikes - hotel car park was the best we got, otherwise it was on the streets

If the accommodation has a garage, we use it and if not …..park wherever

Top tip - use small villages or towns out in the countryside 👍

Mines parked on the street on Segovia now and it won't be moved until I leave on Saturday. If it gets lifted, so be it and the insurers can convey me onwards.
It's always on the street.
no way am I paying 15e a day just to park in a garage. That's pretty much half the price of my nightly accommodation.

It’s quite common in Spain for the Hotel to have secure underground parking a short walk away…

Be warned though - steep access ramps common, and often very dark..

Finding the button to re open the doors can be fun….

Been to Spain and Portugal more times than I can remember. Never pre book and never had a problem with parking. If unsure, just filter reviews on booking. Com for parking and it will answer any unknown aspects of the facilities.

Yes, Spain is good value except when it comes to overnight parking. Not so bad if two or three of you. We just insist they charge us for one space and stick the bikes together.
Out of town it's never an issue.
In some historic towns all the hotels may show no parking but there is usually a secure car park near to.

There's the street. Enough room for everyone.
I couldn't give a shit about overnight parking in a carpark. The only reason anyone cares is because of the paranoid old farts on this forum banging on about secure parking.

🤣 I have no idea what the theft rates are in Spain but for a few euros I'll pay as don't want to bugger up my trip that is probably costing a few K.
However, I won't worry either if my bike is outside if the area looks ok.
