Hi Folks

In August / September time I'd like to have a short trip over to Europe. I've spent a lot of time in Holland and Belgium in the past (great people but not great riding country's) but I'd like to make it into France and get to some good riding roads.

Your advise will be welcome!

I'll leave from either Newcastle or Hull on the overnight Ferry - to either Ijmuiden or Hook. Return the same way - so that'll be 2 nights on the Ferry.

Then I want to get to some good roads as quickly as possible!

I'll have 3 nights to play with then. Where would you suggest we (two up) head for great roads and good weather (should be good everywhere of course at that time of year - but it always rains in Belgium :blast).

Of course its possible to blast down to south of France but I want to enjoy as much of the riding as possible - rather than dedicate two days to just 'making progress'!

So - help me fill in the blanks - where' should I be heading in Northern France:

Night 1 Ferry -

Night 2 -

Night 3 -

Night 4 -

Night 5 - Ferry

Between Brugge and Rotterdam is really nice imho. Beaches and wide open roads. I know you said you want to avoid Belgium and Holland, bit if you've not been before to the islands I'd recommend it.

If you've the time to dash to Luxembourg, between Trier and Frankfurt is also pretty nice.

Thanks for that feedback Martin - I lived in Holland for 2 years and had a lot of time running around the area - so I know it reasonably well (though I tend to just blast through now when I'm on a Euro tour).

No, I need to get into Northern France and see what I can see, though Luxembourg might be an option!

I suspect Tours / Dijon might be on the outer ring of our reach on this trip so I guess within a max of 300 miles circumference of the Hook would be a guide.

Any more suggestions would be welcome.

I have a two / four day route to Blerancourt, that would suit you very well. It's the right area, the right length and good roads.

Let me know your email address and I'll send it to you.
