In other words, NOT the ubiquitous waist length, zipper-attach-to-pants style!!

Any suggestions? Good quality leather, with armour - shoulders, elbows and back?

My Frank Thomas one, bought in 1994 is now thoroughly broken in and no longer black but it needs to be replaced!
Held seems to make two or three good looking one's.....

Suggestions/advice....please?

Hideout are worth a look, Triumph have their Newchurch jacket that looks smart too.

I have the newchurch jacket & the quality seems very good, elbow & shoulder protection & a pocket for a back protector.

Thanks for that. As mentioned already, Held have three - what look like excellent choices but where to find them?

There is a suitably momentous leather company in Selkirk Scotland - Alexander Leathers and they do ask for full measurements from you before they start making the jacket but starting price is around £550.00 armour over and above....

Simmo / Sethmopp,

Thanks again......just looked at the Newchurch jacket and it looks just great! Price is pretty damn competitive too! Will follow up ASAP!

There is indeed and having been into the factory, they make nice jackets. There's also Aero Leathers just along the road in Galashiels. The two companies have an interesting, entwined and not at all harmonious history but we won't go there. Suffice to say, they also produce very good quality leather jackets.

A friend of mine bought himself a Triumph Newchurch jacket recently. I know because he asked me to take him along to the same seamstress in Cupar who shortened the sleeves on my Hein Gericke 3/4 length leather jacket to do the same for his Newchurch. So unless you've got some simian tendencies you might find the arms to be a bit long.

Thanks Schtum! Think it might have to be the Newchurch but the Varano and Varano II from Held are pretty good.

Any chance you might be able to join us at Applecross in April? The CHAS weekend?

Will look at Aero leathers!

Thanks - I'll certainly keep it in mind. It'll depend, largely, on how things are at the time. My health's a bit up and doon these days.....

You and me both!
April 26th will be the 2nd Anniversary of my First Cancer surgery.....
So I guess, I shall hope to be there! Certainly cannot camp as easily as I used to.....

What size are you?

XXL.....I think, or was - until I tried on the 3/4 length leather jackets at the Scottish a Motorcycle Show and could not fit even the XXXL size. Needed 4XL to get sleeve length correct, then the body was way too big!

I have an as new Belstaf Knockhill Vintage Leather leather Jacket in XL. Too tight for me from new, but thought I'd slim down. 3 years old and worn once.

Would be too small for you, unfortunately.

How about this

Thanks Harry, yes, I think the Belstaff would be too tight. Just heard back from Vanson in the US and Aero in the Borders. Vanson have a great jacket but shipping, then UK customs charges......
Aero have NOTHING with armour.....although they suggest "buying their regular jackets and wearing armour underneath....."
Sorry Aero but imagine taking the jacket off and looking like Schwarzenegger underneath?

Kevin,
Many thanks. Sizing us going to be the biggest problem! Trying things on used to be bad enough with Hein Gericke in Glasgow NOT wanting to order anything for you unless you paid up front!
Wonder if JS carries Held.....
Actually, I think Sandy Bloy in Perth are a Held Stockist....

Can you make it to Applecross? Larne-Stranraer then what, four hours 45 mins to Lochcarron? Maybe add another hour - sorry, am forgetting the distance from Stranraer to Erskine Bridge....

try joe rocket leather jackets from america thats where i had to buy mine to get long fitting :beer:

After all your suggestions......

.....I find that Frank Thomas appears to still make a 3/4 length leather jacket but in such limited sizes as to be laughable!

Like the Newchurch and the Held's but Joe Rocket has no longer length one's and Hideout are a bit like Belstaff or Alexander and start at £700......

Not a problem. I know it can be a hassle when you can't try stuff on. Here's the link for the stockist list in the UK:- http://www.held.de/251-1-Held-stockist.html You might find somewhere close to you. EDIT - Yep, Sandy Bloy appear on the list :thumb2

Applecross would be a nice run and somewhere I've 'talked' often enough about getting to after reading so many great reports about and seeing photos of, the scenary....... I'm dreaming now of long-weekend-escapes-from-work
