Looking for some information from those that know the French Pyrenees area.

Double thanks for feed back, I'll get on all the web links. The Arrete hill climb will be a date for my calendar.

Hi Monsieur Magic Fingers

I am a part time resident of the Languedoc in the dept called Aude (#11) and bought a small barn cottage in Easter 07 (when the Euro was 1.50 to sterling) near a village called Puivert (650m altitude) which is approx 50km due south of Carcassonne and 70km west of Perpignan.

I still see some pretty good bargains in the Aude and Ariege (#09) depts, the scenary is wide ranging from true alpine of Ariege which merges to the idyllic lazy Languedoc summer haze of Aude.

Luckily, I am 5 minutes walk from a fresh water swimming lake (with a beach), 40 minutes from a budget ski station called Mont D'Olmes (at 2500m), less than 1 hour from Carcassonne and all the Cathar historic sites of the area and approx 90 mins from Perpignan and the fashionable coastal resorts of Collieure etc.

As I seem to fly more than I drive, their is a choice of Carcassonne, Perpignan, Toulouse and even Girona (Barcelona) airports - all serviced by budget airlines - and bargains are still around. One day I may find the time to ride my bike there!!

If you are looking for land/property try this site for starters - its how I found my place. http://www.catharcastles.com/ - its run by an English couple who have a lot of local knowledge.

Good luck, I wish you well in your find. :type

Thanks Adam, great information. It's all adding to the list of places to go and drive through when I get the chance of some time down there. I have the big Michelin atlas so I'm plotting my route with all these.

Cheers,

Justin.
