Just another quick ‘ride report’. This time I went in Search of an Inn on the Isle of Skye … (The Stein) like some other folks here but I did it kina the ‘long way round’ (sic) with Mzokk.
We started off in Stranraer and headed N. on A77 for a short time. It was quickly apparent that Mzokk and I shared a dislike for main roads and had a similar attitude to how we should progress
We were off the A77 at Turnberry and took the much more scenic A719 which follows the coast giving superb views over Ailsa Craig and Arran Island.
From here we ended up just one junction short of the Erskine Bridge which was the only stretch of Motorway we used on the journey. Once over the bridge we headed up the A82 for a short distance then off again on the A83 via the Arrocher Alps to Inverary.
The roads to Inverary were of the well surfaced, almost all constant radius kind that we all love. Fortunately all the officers of the law were otherwise already engaged with unfortunate peeps which left us with a pretty clear run to our lunch stop.
From here we headed north on the A819 to Dalmally. From here we took the B8074 towards Bridge of Orchy which was a delight. Got some pics at the Falls on the River Orchy.
From here we headed N. towards Rannoch Moor and Glencoe one of my favourite places on earth without a doubt.
A rather moody shot looking west from near the summit of Rannoch.
We headed on through Fort William and on towards Fort Augustus. From here we ‘took out’ one of my favourite stretches from Fort Augustus on the A87 to the junction of A87/A887. To anyone who has’nt had the privilege of this road on a dry day on a bike. You havn’t lived, just go do it soon before you’re too old.
Well from here we headed to the Card Cash machine in Kyle of Lochalsh and toured the car park a couple of times
Then we got to do another of my favourites from the junction of A87/A890 towards the North. Some views of the beautiful Loch Carron.
From here it was North again towards Gairloch and our first overnight at the Old Inn 370 miles.
Part II to follow.
