Just another quick ‘ride report’. This time I went in Search of an Inn on the Isle of Skye … (The Stein) like some other folks here but I did it kina the ‘long way round’ (sic) with Mzokk.

We started off in Stranraer and headed N. on A77 for a short time. It was quickly apparent that Mzokk and I shared a dislike for main roads and had a similar attitude to how we should progress 

We were off the A77 at Turnberry and took the much more scenic A719 which follows the coast giving superb views over Ailsa Craig and Arran Island.

From here we ended up just one junction short of the Erskine Bridge which was the only stretch of Motorway we used on the journey. Once over the bridge we headed up the A82 for a short distance then off again on the A83 via the Arrocher Alps to Inverary.

The roads to Inverary were of the well surfaced, almost all constant radius kind that we all love. Fortunately all the officers of the law were otherwise already engaged with unfortunate peeps which left us with a pretty clear run to our lunch stop.

From here we headed north on the A819 to Dalmally. From here we took the B8074 towards Bridge of Orchy which was a delight. Got some pics at the Falls on the River Orchy.

From here we headed N. towards Rannoch Moor and Glencoe one of my favourite places on earth without a doubt.

A rather moody shot looking west from near the summit of Rannoch.

We headed on through Fort William and on towards Fort Augustus. From here we ‘took out’ one of my favourite stretches from Fort Augustus on the A87 to the junction of A87/A887. To anyone who has’nt had the privilege of this road on a dry day on a bike. You havn’t lived, just go do it soon before you’re too old.

Well from here we headed to the Card Cash machine in Kyle of Lochalsh and toured the car park a couple of times  :D

Then we got to do another of my favourites from the junction of A87/A890 towards the North. Some views of the beautiful Loch Carron.

From here it was North again towards Gairloch and our first overnight at the Old Inn 370 miles.

Part II to follow.

You chaps have well and truely sold me on the idea of a trip to Scotland, the photo's are great, the place just looks fantastic. Tell me can you get around the Knoydart area on a bike, I was watching a TV programme which said it was one of the last areas of wilderness in the UK and on the map there doesnt seem to be any roads at all.

Thanks folks, ... no James didn't find one (sleeping bag) what happened there. Am working on my Part 2 but us dislexics take for ever to write things up

Can do the pics OK though :thumb

OK folks Part II.

After Alistair’s (The Old Inn) by now legendary Fish Pie I needed little rocking to sleep, however a local budding Rock Star at the Old Inn had other ideas. This little fellow might look half asleep but as I learned you cannot judge a book by its cover. He would put ACDC to shame for volume.

From Gairloch we headed up N to Ullapool and on to Durness via Kylesku on and around yet another favourite of mine. Loch Eriboll is without doubt one rare place. It can be on one hand the most beautiful place on earth or when the weather turns, ... something rather different.

Anyway she was kind to us and granted us her favours.

From here we headed for Altnaharra by Loch Hope/Ben Hope, climbed by myself and Schultz a couple of years ago :beerjug:

We stopped enroute by the Broch by Allnabad.

Never really understood much about Brochs until Mzokk and the wee info board illuminated. Pretty impressive these Scotts I reckon.

Anyway some pics.

They knew to build by the river for all sorts of reasons, not least the Salmon … (Shuck)

s15.jpg

Wee critters get a look in too.

s16.jpg

Then we headed on the most respectable GSing roads you could imagine all the way to Skye.

Since 1986 I havn’t seen Skye so beautiful, it was clear and sharp. No rain Johnny, you must be well connected.

s17.jpg

Wee processor struggled a bit with this one but not too bad.

s18.jpg

Eventually we found it, 'THE INN' complete with a non GSing Tosser :eek
Turned out to be an OK bloke :thumb

But later that evening lots of the best GSing Kameraden inside you could imagine :clap
