Looking to do 5 days in Scotland second week of Sept,

Can anyone give me ideas for a 5 day round trip
places to stay as well please.
As it’s so close hopefully be able to book for 3 or 4 people.
Travelling up fro Wales
Thanks in advance.
I think you first need to decide where in Scotland, you're headed for? Davey's suggestion below is a good one.
How about an airbnb or cottage somewhere central like Moffat...then have a day or two around Dumfries and Galloway and the same to the East and the Borders area...Kelso, Duns, maybe as far as Holy Island.
The Highlands are great but can be overcrowded (September should be a bit better). Galloway and the Borders tend to be more quiet and quite a bit cheaper! The roads are probably better and there are plenty of historic attractions, places to eat, accommodation etc.

If you've never toured here before, I'd suggest the above as a means of dipping your toes into the water.

If you are absolutely determined to "do" the Highlands this year, I'd suggest a similar approach. The key is to understand that the miles are not the issue - the roads are! The more so, the further north and west you go and especially on the NC500!

So maybe base yourself in Highland Perthshire and that gives you the opportunity to head into the southern parts of the western highlands - say up to Oban and Fort William, Ardnamurchan and Mull. You would also have the option of going into the Moray coast and Aberdeenshire where there are some interesting stop offs and fine roads.

If you really must do the NC500 (and it has to be said, there's a reason it's so popular: the landscape in the NW is stunning.) Then base yourself around Lairg or somewhere on the eastern sections of the route such as Brora or Golspie. That would give you the option of doing daily rides to the west.

IMG_0184.jpegTen of us did this route a week ago. Green, blue, red, yellow, pink were the days in the order we traveled.
Used Premier Inns at Inverness, Thurso and Fort William then Burt’s hotel in Melrose. A steady few days in mostly glorious weather.

As many have said , and inc Oldrat, unless your prepared to do Mways, your potentially a long way from the start

When i do Strontian from the south coast , I stop at Moffat overnight, Google says 6:43 odd to Moffat & 10:00 to Strontian

That doesn't take into account weather or fuel

The quickest I've made Moffat from home is 8 hrs , the milage to Moffat is 400 odd

Even on the GS with 150 miles min range your looking at 2/ 3 fuel stops on the way up allowing 45 mins per fuel stop - you need a rest , trust me your 6:43 becomes 8:15

Factor in shite weather / fog accident and your 8 hrs easily can become 10 or more , also depending on time when you leave plays a huge part also

If say you stopped at Moffat, you still have a 4 hr run to get to Fort William , again traffic & weather dependant

First time i did Dent to Strontian it took 9 hrs , albeit i had some suspension issues on the way, but any interuption adds, time

I met some lads on Sportsbikes one Friday afternoon in Dumbarton , they were planning to do the NW 500 and be back by Sunday evening ,

Stayed here about three years ago and it was very good. Great food & reasonably priced for that area.

£189 a night in September is not reasonable!

My 2p worth

Base yourself in Dunkeld or Pitlochry Dunkeld house hope is very nice but pricey but plenty of others - The Moulin in Pitlochry is also good

You can have some great days out from there - Applecross is a doeable day as is A good loop to Oban and the A816 or Balmoral

Thanks everyone plenty to mull over, will get the boys together and see how far up they want to go then plan a route

Haha, Mull. Now there’s another option for you. Lovely little island and who knows you might just see miss Hoolie.

Compared to a dorm bed in a Scottish Hostel, no…

Depends on what you are comparing it too ?

A couple in a double room with breakfast is ok @£189/night

This coming week, in mid wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 we’re paying £210 per night for 2 of us in a twin bedded suite for Dinner/B&B

All we could get mid week for 3 nights as the Enduro GP is on locally

Yeah, but you're a very wealthy man JB....most of us would wince at £189 a couple let alone per person....(unless it was weekly at a nice Blackpool boarding house...bargin)
