All bikes look nice no bling on but if dropped 
it won't be fun lol been wondering if I actually need the upper crash bars on mine ? think if it goes over long as cylinders are protected might be enough.

Not sure what the score would be with a GS, but when I recently had a bike:road interface situation with my GSA, the upper bars suffered significant grinding while the tank was untouched. I'm pretty sure that without the bars, the tank would have been damaged - or maybe even holed. As it was, the bike was 100% rideable afterwards (even though the total bill comes to £3k5...).

They do look good with gloss black crash bars. Until you fall off and scar the lovely shine on the finest council gravel.
The tank crash bars indeed do s god job. But the lower ends suffer too much leverage, so bend backwards and whack the rocker cover. No amount of fancy protection will work when the cover gets knocked off its bolts.
Some rocker cover protectors with sacrificial rubbing plate and no lower crash bars would be far more effective.

Very sexy again I think even with the pannier frames & bars on it makes the world think we're all about to go around it Iv had a few ohh's & ahh's about mine parked in town fully loaded with shopping

I like the black look but after dropping mine have had to replace the bars. Another option would be to straighten the bars and use powder compatible filler on the road scars. Finally and have it re coated.
But it's expensive stuff.
Normal filler won't take powder and won't handle the heat.
There is something to be said for sacrificial shields - cheaper to replace than the whole crash bar.

Weld the dents migs are good for that or Mr whippy as some call it cos you can fill big holes had to do my XT today hole in the manifold lol
