Loose Brake Disc

Hi Lads,
doin a check on the bike today (2004 1200GS) and noticed a bit of play in the rear disc. It's been on the bike for 9 months or so and didn't notice this before (to be honest didn't check it before either). If you have a GS can you check your rear disc and see if there is any play in it, or do you know is this normal?

Funny thing, I clocked this on my bike last weekend. ('04 built GS 65k kms).
Always knew there was a small bit of play but it is now still small but noticeable. I'd say 3mm side to side at wheel rim. Allowed is 1mm. However, I think that it is bearing play that is allowed, not play in the splines. Mine has almost nil play in the bearings but slight observable play in the splines. I ordered a new flange and will see how well it fits next week. I read that the flange should be heated to 100C before offering onto the male splines. Let's see!
Dealer says part number has changed and there is a "seal" on the new one....

The play is not side to side, it's as if the holes around the screws holding the disc on are larger than they need to be, allowing the disc to move. All these screws are tight though, it appears they don't 'grip' the disc as they do in the front, they just keep it in place almost allowing it to move, probably about 4 mm in total. Someone told me its to allow expansion of the disc if it overheats, but I'm wondering if thats the case why is the front disc not loose in the same way?

Was the disc a genuine BM part or did you use an EBC disc? Had the same problem on my 1200RT (Same disc as GS) Turned out to be a batch of faulty discs; not enough material for the securing bolt to 'pinch' the disc securely to the wheel. I spoke to EBC and the disc & pads were replaced foc. Fitting costs weren't covered although I did do the the job myself (Had to buy another set of disc bolts though). Had no problems with the new disc since.

I've an identical issue at the minute - wobbly disc but the brake disc carrier isn't wobbly itself. Reckon the aluminium carrier is a bit worn so having it shimmed...
