Lord Stones cafe

Gorgeous day on Saturday.

Attempted a visit to Lord Stones cafe - approaching from the Cleveland route. The hill was sheer ice and all vehicles were turning back so I did too. I then couldn't be bothered to try the route Chop Gate route so went to the pub on Blakey Ridge instead......

Saw a couple of guys on small trail bikes - one looked like a Serow (redish + mud). Anyone here?

Hi Elle. Were the fires blazing in the pub. Great to warm in inner reaches of a cold biker.
Went out Sunday, Was a bit slippy under the trees where the sun dont get to, but an enjoyable dat out.

Wondered myself.
I came across the place a few weeks ago whilst walking the coast to coast.
I was looking forward to a cuppa, having heard lots about the place. Bugger.

I did hear its been bought and potential renovation is on the cards.
That maybe just rumour though !!

Sad to hear the Lord Stones may have closed it's doors. I've had many a cake and brew there, on foot, mountain bike or motorbike. Moved away from the area a decade or more ago but have kept popping in when visiting my parents.

Shortly after they opened I did my bike test with the council run scheme, does that still run? It was a hell of a cheap way to get a bike licence. The instructors let each of us choose a cafe venue for the day, guess where I took us to? First week after we did CBT, it was fun/scary with all of us having next to no clutch control pogoing up Carlton bank. Ahh, starting rituals on MZ 125s. Bloody loved it.

That was the one. I did my course at Skelton in the winter of 1995/6. The only instructors I can recall any details of were Paul? the senior instructor who rode an XT600 and a 900 Diversion and Tony? who worked at Guisborough Tool Hire. I take my hat off to you all. IIRC you worked as volunteers and the CMTS provided the bikes and training locations, most of which were schools.

Yeah we were up there the other Sunday, after riding 100 or so miles on the UCR's we were looking forward to something to eat, bloody closed up, it says on the notice board on the gate, closed for renovations?? must be loosing a lot of sales, sounds like its been closed for some time.....
