Bugger. :blast

Got home tonight, rode straight into the garage - and the left pannier wasn't on the bike any more.

Vario panniers - ever lost one?

No but it's not an uncommon occurence. My wife once borrowed a GS from the local friendly BMW Motorrad dealership and a few hundred yards later one of the Varios bounced up the road.

If the height of the mushroom bolt onto which the catch secures isn't set correctly, it's quite easy for them to come off.

I've had mine at 120mph+ on many occasions and they always seem fairly secure.

Must be very unlucky - something of a hazard to other road users if they fall off too easily!

Hopelessly retraced my journey this morning looking for a black and silver box or wreckage of...

Oh well - anyone selling a left - hand pannier?

By any chance was that you who flew past me in TORRENTIAL rain in the Stalybridge area (Tmeside), on Friday night ??

Just one 'fully extended' Vario pannier & no top box looked mighty odd !!
Who ever it was gave a quick wave as they disapeared into the gloom of the monsoon rain, on a road they obviously know well - as i fumbled around with a steaming up, fully-tinted race visor at night time (what an arse :loopy - that'll teach me)

Nope - I was in Cork.

Would insurance cover this ??? And if it does can we claim off your insurance for the 10 rare Rolex's of mine you were looking after in your left hand pannier !!!

Mine were covered on my Home Contents Insurance when I lost both sides in my accident last year. They come under 'Luggage'.

initially they tried to tell me they were 'accessories' just like a roof rack and therefore would/should be covered under my bike insurance but when I argued that if it were a car I wouldn't take my roof rack into a hotel room along with my suitcases they said they would check with their legal beagles...

Came back half hour later and agreed to replace them - Result. :D

The other bonus was I didn't have any excess on my home contents insurance. Double result. :thumb:thumb

Mmmmmm. Hadn't considered home insurance. Excess on bike insurance makes it a no go. I'll be checking my home policy tonight.

Good call - thanks...

Oh and as well as the Rolexes I had all three of my digital SLRs, both my iPads and my laptop in the pannier!

Yes, I distinctly remember you putting them in there. The reason I know is because you had three of my Rolexes in there too, along with two of my Faberge eggs which you were going to get valued prior to buying them. :beerjug:

Reported the loss to the police (Wiltshire and Avon & Somerset - cross border incident). Started the claim process with home insurance.

So when asked the value, how much is a pair of Vario panniers new now? (1200GS).

Replacement pannier bought. Home Insurance tried the accessory ploy until I explained how if I had had a suit case on the roof rack of my car and lost it they would have paid up as it is as LUGGAGE.

THis is effectively the same.

They paid up...

Vario panniers - ever lost one?

Just lost my top box last week when I rode through a west cork pot hole....the vario panniers mounting seems not to be very firm and I a bit on the cheap side....hope you find a replacement if the insurance doesn't
