Hope you can help....

I downloaded Adobe reader 7 and it came with a photo album thingy.
It automatically transfered all my pictures accross into this album.

I didn't want it so I removed the programme thinking that all my pictures were in the "My Pictures" folder not in the Adobe one.

Well it seems that I have lost 2000 + pictures that I canmnot find anywhere on my laptop :spitfire

If I restore the computer to a previoius setting will they come back?

Really really bloody angry at the mo as I hadn't backed up all the pictures from my trip to Cambodia :spitfire

Jon :(

:eek Mmm, tricky one, not sure exactly how adobe handle the files, but first call, try this:

If you are running windows XP, you can try a system restore, : program files>accessories>system tools>system restore.

But, chances are this wont work. Your best bet is to use something like "one track data recovery program" not for the basic user I might add, but I have used it to great effect to recover lost and deleted files for our customers!

Hope this helps.

Before you go doing anything serious, we need to know how you 'removed the programme'.

If you used the prog's uninstall .exe, or did it from Control panel>Add/remove progs, the photos will still be there on the hard drive, but possibly named in an obscure way and buried lots of folders down.

How have you searched for them???

Manually or by using the search function???

If on the other hand you just deleted the folder that the prog was in, you may well have physically deleted them.....

I too regrettably updated my Adobe to V 7 a short while ago only to discover what a bloated pile of poo it was. Deleted the prog via the uninstall process to find the same thing with my pictures. They weren't actually lost as such, just in a different place on the C:\ drive. I forget now exactly where, but it didn't take long to find them and restore them to the My Pictures folder. :)

P.S. Reloaded Adobe V 5.5 which is all I needed.

Thanks guys,

I removed the Adobe programme from the add / remove programes from the control panel.

I have tried a system restore with no joy :(

Unfortunatly they are not in my recycle bin either.

As far as searching for them I have looked in "my documents" and in whats left of my "Fuji Finepix" programme where all my pictures used to be. They were also in "my pictures" but have gone from there as well :(

I have not used the search function as I don't know how to phrase the search :nenau

Jon....click START>Search>Pictures, Music or video and let it search your whole disk(s)....then when you getthe long list up, select 'Thumbnails' from the 'View' MEnu and scroll through 'til you find one of the 'missing' pics.......when you've found it, copy the address down (from the adress bar in the top of the window......if it's not there, do 'View>Toolbars>adress bar' .

Then you can go to the folder where the photos will be and copy 'n paste them out to somewhere sensible.

(PS Use copy and paste initially......not cut and paste.....I once lost a whole load of files when I had a BSOD after cutting some files in preparation for pasting them elsewhere :( )

Bill. I'd do as you suggest but if I was searching I'd use the file extension method .. or do you think that might have got changed?
I'd then go to ...
Start >> Search >> All Files and Folders... Go to More Advanced Options.
Tick .. Search System Folders, Search hidden files and folders, Search sub folders

I will give it another go.

Using .gif or jpeg only found what was left of my pictures, not the lost ones.
I did notice that it wasn't searching the hidden files when I did the search. :nenau

I'm not a computer buff and i'm at my limits allready :(

Now my finepix programme has decided to import everything into the menu including music :nenau

It just used to list all my photo albums before

Jon,
just seen this thread and you may have recovered your pics by now.
If you haven't be aware that if the pics really have been deleted every time you use the computer you may be overwriting them.
They are recoverable and I can help if you need it ( i am in the Bath area and work in Wiltshire) - pm or e mail me.
