I have a bmw nav4, It is now about 6or7 years old.
Being a techno phobe it has never been plugged into a computer other than to register it when new.
Upto a couple of days ago it has performed perfectly.
However, over the last couple of days it has started to lose satellite reception, regaining and then losing it again.
It happens every few minutes.
I've tried switching off, removing battery etc which worked for a short while.
But on the way home tonight it just won't find any satellites. Luckily I know my way home from work.
So, have the Chinese blocked them, have any satellites crashed and burned or is my unit fooked.
Has anybody experienced similar if so is there a fix.

I had the same problem with my Quest which had the fold out aerial. The connection for the aerial had failed. I bought an external aerial which could plug into a socket on the Quest - Not sure if your unit is the same?

My unit is the nav 4 which is effectively the garmen 660.

Hi Paul is there not a GPS Connection Below the Audio Out on the Left hand side of the Nav 4 . On the 660 there is one under the Rubber Cover . As Mr K said about the Quest , The same happened to my Quest and the External Aerial made no Difference it still could not find the Sattellites. I think I still have the External Aerial in the House, Have you tried a Master Reset ? Francis

Downloading the latest software and complete reset seems to have scuppered the Chinese attempts to get me lost.

lost reception

I spoke too soon.
Even after downloading the latest software and a full reset the nav 4 is still continuously
losing reception.
Any ideas as what to try next?

If it's within warranty. No

If it's out of warranty. Yes / maybe, depending on your powers of persuasion, the weather, your shoe size and what you eat for breakfast.

£120 for a refurbished nav 1v.

lost reception.

Got a reformed unit from garmin and I've still got the same problem.
Works in the car but as soon as I put on the bike it loses reception.
Could it be the BMW cradle?
I have a gps speed camera detector on the bike aswell that has also stopped working
Could it be that the nav 1v was somehow using the speed camera antenna?
I could do with trying on another bike and trying their unit on my bike.
Off upto Heartside tomorrow so if you see me eyeing up your bike don't worry it's only me.

OK, so the replacement device works in your car but not on your motorcycle..... That would seem to indicate it is some sort of problem with the bike, as opposed to the device itself, the problem not having gone away with the refurbished unit.

Try:

Cleaning the contacts on the mount.

Check the power supply to the mount

Make sure the device sits in the mount properly

Disconnect the GPS based speed camera detector, though it's tricky to see how (I suppose) a completely device is interfering with your Garmin

Buy a secondhand mount
