Lost service book question.

Hope this is in the right section. Im back in the running for buying another T/C 1200Gs. Ive got my eye on a 2011 GSA but its missing its service book. Its got less than 20k miles on it and looks to be in good nick. The present owner says that BMW will confirm that it was serviced by them up until Jan 2015.
Is this a biggy in terms of what price is being asked of it? The previous owner said the book is not in his possesion, so I can say thats its almost certainly been disposed of at some time. Is it possible to aquire a new book and get it stamped up by BMW? What is the likely cost to be? Gordon T.

Ask the seller where it was serviced and phone them. It will be them who would source a new book and stamp it up for you.
Can't see them charging much if anything - especially if you get them to service it.

I think I'm correct in saying that any(nearest?) BMW Motorrad dealer will be able to check (and print out) all the service history of the bike and all/any recall or campaign modifications carried out - or any still outstanding

All the above is only true if service work was carried out by BMW of course. Bike's registration number would be all they need.

Not exactly, only the BMW dealer who carried out the service work can confirm and stamp the book

However any BMW dealer can confirm all warranty/campaign/recall work from the bike's VIN tag

I bought a XCountry a few years aback (bereavement sale) and there was no paperwork with it

I bought a new handbook/service book and it was £15 and NOG BMW stamped up all their work that they had carried out, when it was their demo bike and afterwards for the deceased owner

However unearthing a vehicles history can sometimes be enlightening for good and bad reasons

Ok. Ive bought it. Very good condition 2011 GSA with lots of bits >17k miles for £6.5k. I will take my chance on the past service history. Ive been told that it has been fully serviced by BMW but I will have to contact the servicing dealer for the exact details. I will ask them for a replacement service book when Im the registered keeper. All good up to now

Sounds ok - but a bit too cheap to me for a 2011 GSA TwinCam with only 17k on it

Is the seller desperate for cash ?

Look there will be nothing wrong with the bike. Nothing to adjust. Seriously. Change the oil and filter and put your mind at rest.

There really isn't much to do. My fathers r1100 hasn't had a valve adjustment nor check for 80,000km and it is fine.

(CLEARLY) it's up to the seller to obtain a replacement book and have it stamped up.

There are shed loads of GSs out there available to buy, if they won't play, walk away.
