Due to a virus attack and default setting in new Anti-virus software to "delete infected files" I have lost some sytem files relating to IE6 in Win98SE. The computer boots up OK and will open IE6 but hangs up when I try to get anything from Windows Update.

I am at my office with the problem PC connected to my network which also has another "all good" Win98 PC attached as well as my XP Pro laptop.

Is there a simple way to compare the Windows folders on each of the Win98 units to identify which files have been deleted? If so can I simply copy them over from one PC to the other or will they need to be added to the registry?

I'm pretty certain that I have a virus free installation now.

Would it be quicker or easier to just re-install the OS?

Is there not a list of files deleted in the anti virus software?

I know that, in theory, you can ionstall over the top without upsetting your existing settings etc., but in practise I've had issues before by going down this route.

I'm afraid not Wizard.

I pressed the scan button before checking the settings and log was one box not ticked.

Thanks fo rthe advice guys, re-installation in progress in 1 minute.
