Hi,

Coming back home from a ~100 miles ride, as I was entering the garage I've heard this really loud bang and the engine stopped immediately.

I've managed to start it again on the button but it won't keep idle anymore. Also a strong smell of a blown capacitor or something.

Rang BMW and I'm waiting for the rescue to come and see it.

Could it be the fuel pump controller?

Anyone with a similar fault/experience?

BTW it's a 2014 1200GS with 1900 miles.

Cheers

That's a new one on me! Not seen anyone on here with that happening hope you get sorted asap.

Maybe it was an 11** owner taking a pot shot at you  Actually the big bang sounds like a back fire so I'd be checking around the throttle body rubbers for an air leak.

Hi oblertone, spot on!

Mr. G from BMW just came and fixed it.

It was a misplaced rubber on top of the right cylinder causing the extra air intake and therefore it was not able to keep it idle.

Mr. G said that he had seen it happen when starting on a cold engine on previous GS's but not on the new ones.

Not my case though, because the bike was running for 4 hours or so. Anyway nothing major and sorted!

Cheers

I had that on my 04, 06 and 09 GS's. Didnt happen on the '11 and not yet happened on my '14 WC.

It only ever happened once on each bike, as part of the running in process. Then never happened again. Weird.

Unfortunately mine pops off, after a large backfire probably 2 times a year and at random times. I'm going to have to get myself one of the special tools to put it back on again.
