loud banging from the engine...

vines did it, vines mend it, ? if you feck with it and then have to take it back, they may not honour any warranty on the work they did, i wouldnt even tell em it was low on oil, as your supposed to check daily

Like Digger says Let the folks that did the work cover the work and sort it!

If you start to it the will "probably" try a wiggle out leaving you with a big bill!

going to vines tomorrow first thing to get this sorted, was looking for an easy fix but appears to be more serious, hopefully theyll sort it asap and ill get a nice clean and new bike to thrash the shit out of till they fix mine!

Lets hope nothing to serious will look at it tomorrrow. No loan bike if you are going to thrash them(mental note made)

The classic large gob trap...

Been up to the tea bar, bike is crap, it makes loads of noises....

....Of course Jonyboy may well be right. And if he is we will no doubt hear all about it.... If not he will indeed be a used johnny...

Jonyboy jonyboy jonyboy :comfort

lucky for you tho Darren is a top bloke and wont hold it against you.. enjoy your ride home on the cg125 :D

yep, that would be me being a twat as usual!

anyway, just got back from vines, darren listened to the bike for all of 20 secs and took it into the garage, and gave me his bike for the weekend, which was nice, and i promise i wont thrash it, scouts honour,

appears that the tappets or something to do with them is loose or something and they are getting it sorted,

fingers crossed this will sort it out and that will be the end of it, bad things come in threes as they say......

if not i may have to go honda.....

If it is just tappets should have it back tomorrow - but that doesn't explain the strange behaviour of the oil.

got the bike back this afternoon, apparently it was the con rod that wasnt aligned properly after the engine let go,

vines fixed the problem and also gave the bike a service as the new cylinder had done about 600 miles, dropping the oil and changing the filter,
they even replaced the 2 bolts at the back that hold the rear rack on as i lost them a while back

hopefully this will be the end of the saga and i can have many happy and problem free miles on the gs for the years to come,
and it didnt cost me a penny,

top work by vines (finally) and cheers daren for lending me his bike for a few hours, top customer service,
:beerjug:

Would someone care to explain that or is it complete bullshit?

Anyhow Jonyboy glad you got sorted without too much hassle:thumb2

The phrase "Let go" is usually attributed to catastrophic failure on an engine :nenau

Usually accompanied by the con-rods exiting the crankcase with or without the pistons................

How was one "out of alignment"?

Al

Sounds like bullshit to me.

In all the engine I have built the conrod automatcally 'alignes' itself when the bigend bearing bolts are tightened. The other end is the 'little end' or gudgeon pin which again is a snug fit and alignes itself.

However a conrod can bend when too much boost is applied at low rpm - but in the case of the GS this is not possible.

I would love to hear an explanation from Vines - maybe they will reply on here.

im not 100% sure if it was the con rod that let go, i was so fecking happy that the bike was sorted i wasn't paying that much attention to what was being said, but sure it was a rod of some description, sorry for my crap description of what gone wrong, but they did say that the tappet shims? where also loose? and that partnered with the loose or misaligned "rod" caused the banging and knocking

all i care about is that the bike is sorted, if something happens again then the bikes gone and strong words will be had with both vines and bmw uk and bmw Germany

hopefully darren will be on here soon to put thing right and into perspective and explain properly what has gone wrong so an accurate diagnosis can be made instead of relying on my incoherent and rubbish ramblings!

If i read this right.vines done a conrod change and a service in a few hours.or have i gone wrong somewhere?
