hey guys...need help..i have a 1994 r1100gs 85000km...over a couple of miles an engine knock turned into a loud nasty something seriously bad rattling noise...a local general bike mechanic with half a look says its the rhs big end bearing and its a big job....any advice???

Big end not such a big job -- could be chain tensioner, can't tell for sure what it is from here, at the other end of a computer ,

Throttle body bearing????
Try putting your fingers under the TB and covering the bowden(?) cable thingie where it joins the TB, see if it goes (the noise). Just a thought. Mine knocked like f**k and was down to the TB bearing. Sounded EXACTLY like the noise was coming from smack in the middle of the engine.Good luck.

....mine had a loud knocking in the engine, like 'glack, glack, glack, glack' at tickover and it turned out to be the crank, or more precisely, the big-ends wot were shagged. 1150 with 16000 miles (and presumably much abuse).

Good luck, it doesn't happen very often; they're usually bulletproof until at least 100000+.
