Louder horn

Having been following this thread with keen interest can I ask, Mr Engineer, sir, did you come to a decision?

And if so, which option did you go for?

And, more importantly, does it work?

I haven’t yet, but it looks like only one possibility, the 6A one that doesn’t appear to trip current limit - opinion is divided but I might risk going for it.

That is the same one I fitted, very happy with it, though I fitted it with a relay driven off the OEM horn so that I could have both horns operate together. Even louder, gives a two tone effect, and redundancy in case one fails. (The Denali is made in Italy so reliability might be a factor given the Italian reputation for dodgy electrics!) Fitted it up inside the left side of the fairing.

Yes, I'm tempted by this one too but also the 'Wolo' so will await your eventual fitment report with interest.

I really don't want to go down the root of fitting a relay (been there, done that (with help) on my last GSA) as you can never get all the plastic bits you take off to fit as snugly as they did before. Plus, dropping that one screw and despite going over the ground with a fine tooth comb, not being able to find it. Arrrrrrrrrgh!!!

Thank you for your imput.

Pot, Kettle...

"Would a horn have helped in any of the above? No, No, and No!

Case 1. Rode after him and made a gesture suggesting that his balls were hinging in his eyes.

Case 2, I swung the bike round on the road, went after him, overtook and blocked the road. Driver had an education in profanities. Driver who had been overtaken offered to hold him whilst I hit him!

Case 3. Wagged my finger at a very embarrassed french man.

To my mind, horns are a form of aggression"

Borrowed an RT when mine was at the dealers and riding home there were a couple of typical cyclist happily riding two abreast as they usually do with out a care in the world and even less for other road users!

In accordance with the Highway Code I sounded my horn in order to let another road user know that I was there.

The piddling sound that came out had no effect whatsoever on the cyclists. They didn't even look round, and why would they for a vehicle that sounded like, at best a Honda 90, or something smaller!

This is a common occurrence these days but when I've used my present GSA complete with Nautilus (and relay) they move over almost immediately. Why? because it sounds like a 40 ton truck and as such is worthy of some respect, if only because they don't wanna end up under it!

No aggression at all. Just complying with the law of the land.

I’ve Only Gone n Dun It

Ok, it’s been a while and with no updates coming forth I bit the bullet and bought the Wolo Horn, which I’ve just fitted all by my self.

It took 10 minutes and the use of a size 13mm open spanner. I then disconnected the OME from the bike and then connected the Wolo with the simple leads supplied and bolted it to the original bracket on the bike and it clears the forks.

Parp! P A R P ! It works! It does say it’s 6 amps but the cam bus seems to accept it.

Simple, no fuss, loud horn replacement.

MM.

PS: No relays or any other technical thingies were used for this operation.

Had my soundbomb fitted for more than six months, and other than using around a few tight country lanes to warn oncoming, I've used it a handful of times at most. Each time has been to alert unaware drivers, a simple pap and they stop their manoeuvre (e.g.rolling out of a junction without looking or reversing onto the road). Nothing aggressive about it whatsoever, rather used to good effect to ensure safety of all road users.

Btw, I'm pretty useless but found the fitting of the horn and feeding of the wiring very straightforward.

Denali SoundBOMB Mini 113dB Horn fitted it to my 2013lc and guess what it tripped out. Is it the connections not good enough?
