Just bought a dog (thanks fleabay:blast) of an XTZ750 and it doesn`t run too well. Rest of it is OK though:D

Apparently, there is no compression in one of the cylinders. Can`t really afford to let the local garage loose on it so is it a big job to do and what is a likely cause?

I`m reasonably happy to rip the heads off and have a look as long as I have an idea what I`m looking for.

Any help appreciated.

it's either rings/bores or valves.

measure compression as normal. then squirt a bit oil down the plughole. retest. if reading is higher, it's the bores sealing better, if same, it's valves.

My money is on the rings being shot, so rebore and two pistons will see it right...... or a cheap 850 lump.....
