I've just sold my 2012 GSA that I had from new and completed over 40K miles. All that time I had the Touratech ultra low seat fitted as I'm only 5' 7" with 28" inside leg. This was perfect for me but very hard on the Gluteus Maximus. It's ultra low because there is so little foam in it! My new 2016 GSA LC arrives in March and I know from test rides that it's too tall for me. (tiptoes both sides with OE seat in lowest position.) Any suggestions as to a more comfortable low seat. .....my fall back is another ultra low from Touratech and suffer accordingly.

Cheers. John.

surprised you didnt opt for the factory lowered GSA, mate has one and I have standard, you'd be hard pressed to notice a difference when bikes are side by side,

I'd advise you not to get the low Sargent seat. It's very comfortable but it's wider and therefore it's harder to get your feet down with one of those fitted than it is with the standard BMW seat.

Personally I'd change your order for a low chassis version, but you'll move back to the back of the queue. I added Riding Mode Pro or whatever it's called to mine and delivery moved back five weeks

I did check this but I had probs finding out exactly how they lower the bike. I use mine off road and was concerned that they reduce suspension travel and ground clearance in order to lower the seat hight.

You could always buy a used OE seat and have it trimmed down accordingly :augie

I have a similar inseam to you and have found that the OE seat has bedded in quite nicely allowing me to flat foot (one side only) when stationary :thumby:

Correct - that's why it's described as the Low Chassis model.

I have a factory lowered GS LC and unless you are riding over huge boulders I challenge you to spot the difference between my lowered and a standard bike just looking at the ground clearance. Why on earth would you buy a bike where you can't touch the floor properly?

Cymarc do these lowering cam's, that drop the front of the seat a further 10mm by moving the bracket down.

I bought the lowered GSA LC and use the standard seat.

When I bought mine BMW offered the lower seat as a no cost option, the only difference was that it is black, is that no longer available?

I ordered my GS with the low seat, at no cost. Then fitted Cymarc cams to get me a bit lower still ,cost £20. :thumb2

My 2 pence worth

As Schtum points out the sargent seat is a good deal wider so the benefits of the lowering are offset. I actually didnt think the sargent LC seat was as comfy as the stock item.
I am not tall by any means at 5'8" and managed quite easiy on a GSA LC with the standard seat on its low setting. mainly because it is much narrower than the old TC seat.

I am prepared to bet about a quid that you would be ok with standard on low or get those cams from Hooton that lower it more.

Ahh yes but what's your inside leg measurement, Richard? I'm probably 1" taller than you but with a 29" inside leg and enormous testicles ( ) I can't even pick an LC Adventure off the sidestand. It probably doesn't help that the suspension doesn't compress too much when I sit on it. ;)

I found the cams didn't make that much difference tbh.

I used to ride the 2010 GSA with the TT XL seat but they are wide so don't really lower you that much, I could ride the standard seat in low and solo it's ok but with a pillion was tricky.

I opted for a low GSA which is still tall but a lot better, with your 28" inseam this would make sense then get a low seat if required, I use the Bmw exclusive seat (low) so I get a real footing down.

If you do off road you simply raise the pre-load to get that extra reach is it goes quit high and you will have tippy toe footing on this setting, This surely is the best of both worlds.

I reckon i would be about 29" as my Knob only gets half way to the floor :D
I weigh 13 stone one of those is my bollocks:) ! so my suspension didnt compress much either.

Seriously the LC feels a much lower bike than the TC because of the narrowness

Can I just say how nice it is to see evidence of normal sized human beings riding GSes rather than all the overly-tall humanoids who gravitate towards them so that they don't have to bend the knees on their overly long legs too much..... :thumb

I went for the low chassis model and have to say after riding almost all previous GS & GSA models I have never felt so comfortable and confident. I'm 5'8" with a 29" inseam and have the seat in the standard setting and get both feet 90% flat. When I go offroad I just increase the preload to lift the bike up

Daytona do some boots with another 1" or so in the heel/ sole. That, with the BMW low seat should be good enough for you to flat foot at least one side.:thumb

+1 :thumby:
I totally agree!
