low seat vs standard on gs adv.

I am 5'11 and my adv. when delivered will have the standard seat. I prefer the low seat I tried as feet are firmly on the floor and thus i feel confident. But i worry that if i buy, say, sargent low seat after long rides i may get discomfort in hip due to leg posistion. so should i stick with standard seat and cope with feet on tip toe? I would appreciate the opinions of more experienced riders. I see sargent are popular but will be at world of BMW next week and Touratech are opposite so comments on touratech seats would be welcome too. thanks

... the one that makes you feel confident; then after a while and you gain more faith in your abilities and/or you encounter problems, swap it on here for a standard seat

Be aware that some aftermarket seats (especially Corbin) are lower but wider; therefore negating any benefit.

can't you get a BM Low seat free when you get the bike these days??

mine came with a standard seat and a free low seat - mines an 06 when they didn't have to do deals...

if its free get it and work out what suites you...

I had a standard height Sargent on my 07 GSA and I could put both feet on the floor (I'm 5'9"). However with the 2010 GSA I find that the even with the BMW seat on low, I can just about get one foot down. Hence I've bought the low Sargent.

You say the 2010 is taller? I have 06 adv with a sargent (only 5'7") which feels comfortable to me, took a 2010 out for a test ride with standard BMW seat on and to be honest it felt little different to my seat. You must have had the 2010 jack up on its suspension.

Is the low seat option adjustable? If so you could have it on really low initially and then raise it up.
Your dealer should have offered you whatever seat option you wanted at no extra cost.

I'd agree with this. If it's got ESA and it's set on the heavy off-road it does raise the bike up significantly. Normally if I have my GSA on the road setting set to sport and rider plus luggage I can get both feet flat on the ground with the standard seat in it's high position. If I set the ESA to heavy off road I can't get my heels on the ground.
