Does anyone know if the 1200 Low seat is a cut down std seat or does it have special padding or something??.
I am looking for a low seat but considering cutting a std seat if ?, thats OK..

AFAIK the Low seat is a different base.

The Normal seat and the High seat both have two positions, whereas the Low seat just offers the one height, and hence my assumption that it is a different base.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Jedi,, I was hopeing It was the same as there is more std seats available second hand, but now I must look for the low seat then,. :thumb

How much do you need to lose?

For info, the standard seat gives 840/860mm options, the high seat gives 870/890 and the low gives 810mm. It might well be possible to get a standard seat re-sculpted, to take off some height and some width?

Presumably you've got the pre-load turned down on the rear shock?

I currently have a low seat on mine wch I might be prepared to swop for std. Not a million miles from Leicester so you could come over and try low seat out (and v versa) with a view to possible exchange.

Low seat!!.. Mmmm!

I'm a short-arse... 5'7"... and bought a new unused low seat from this site some time ago from a guy who bought a cancelled order bike...... I thought it'd be ideal for me....

However.... after fitting it and riding sum.. I found it rather "Hard" compared to the standard adjustable one... It "feels" like they've "sculpted" some of the padding from the top and its got a definate "flat area" across the top compared to the standard one... Its also def harder (cos the padding is thinner).. & I did give it a chance to bed in.. but... I reverted back to the original seat long ago.. cos i find it much more comfy... Personally I'd stick wi the original - if i were you... (and buy some thick healed boots instead).. but if you insist... my low seat is sat here doing nowt!?!.. but i fear it'll end up in your garage too!??!

Cheers

If he has, that would be even more reason to source a low seat in order to get the rear preload cranked up to somewhere near maximum. This actually get the bike to turn at a reasonable rate and gets more weight over the front wheel, increasing feel and making the bike more stable.

I'm interested in purchasing/swapping a standard for a low.

If one of you guys wants to give me a price etc. I'm in north wilts area.
PM me.

Not got any seat to swop at the moment , but got a new 12ADV coming in the spring so looking now for low seat info for when it turns up..
The ADV will be higher than I can happily cope with but the std 1200 seat is about right,, I understand the 1200 low seat will fit ?,so looking at that option until I can test the height on the bike it self,,,Thanks anyway.. :thumb

Guys
I'm also in the market for a swap/buy of a low seat - I have a black standard at present

I live just outside Rugby, so only down the road from you really, and I have both standard and low seats.

You are welcome to try them on my std 1200 and I'm sure that we can guess at the effect that the increased ADV ride height will have.

PM me if you want to meet up.

I used the low seat for about 1k miles and I also found it uncomfortable after only a short distance (about 70 miles) so changed back to the std seat on low setting. This is usually fine but I agree that the bike needs high preload to improve turn in and feel. With this jacked up, I struggle to get a foot down in some circumstances.

I am looking for a low option that is narrow and low at the front but has decent padding at the rear. I have a new Touratech extra low comfort seat on order (four weeks is now) and hope this is what I'm looking for. I am a bit worried about the bar / seat relationship, but figure that it can only be the same as fitting bar risers!

Capsize, keep us updated on the new extra low seat, I am thinking of getting one (gets me closer to the ground when I change to an Adventure) but not sure yet. Like you found the OEM seat uncomfortable after 70 miles ish but I have kept it to use with my airhawk on long trips.

Ps being how much is the Touratech setting you back?

Will gladly report ...........when I actually receive it!

To be fair to TT UK they did say when i ordered it that it was the first order and they had posted their last order before Christmas so I wasn't holding my breath. I have chased it twice now and I don't know what it is about the guys at TT but it seems sometimes that there just so little urgency or interest.

As for cost, TT were slightly vague as they hadn't yet calculated the UK price. I expect to pay Euro / GBP exchange rate plus a bit plus delivery. Probably find that they want somewhere near Euro=GBP! again, I will post when I know.

Where in Cornwall are you. I am visiting my father in Porthleven this weekend; unfortunately in a car.

I am 10 miles up the road in Redruth. Thanks for the info in advance, reckon you will be right on the price. When I order I will be doing it though a local company who have agency so deal direct with TT so at least I miss out the carriage in the UK. But GBP = Euro is more than likely.
