With 18,000 just appearing on the meter a rather worrying knocking noise has appeared from the transmission system when turning left at low speed. Can then continue for a short distance once upright. Doesn't happen at speed or in a right turn. Think it's a bit quicker than wheel speed so possible shaft rotation speed.
Anyone had similar or any ideas? Tried checking rear wheel for play and all seems well. No noises either when turning wheel on centre stand.

Age?

You havn`t said how old your bike is. If it`s still under warranty, I`d beat a path to your local dealer....:thumb

Just coming up 3 years old so warranty expired. Have booked into dealer as I can't find anything. Could be expensive if they need to start opening up too much. Starting to break out in a cold sweat already!

Neil, providing your bike has full BMW service history, the dealer may be in a position to ask BMW for a goodwill gesture towards the repair costs, assuming your gearbox is faulty.

A good mate just had his 1200 transmission replaced at 19000 miles due to a failing bearing, it cost him for the labour only (plus Vat) as BMW provided a new gearbox worth £1300 as a goodwill gesture. IIRC the bill was around £340 with the vat, and of course the work is warranted by the dealer.
