Low Suspension discussion

Further update

After much research and helpful advice on this forum, I have now ordered a Wilburs 50mm lower shock. Very helpful guys and thanks for the link. I haven't considered the forks yet as I will first text ride and maybe slide them up through theyoke a little before letting my good lady on it. The Daytona Lady Star boots will help - what else can I do?

I can't find any other bike suitable for her - she doesn't want a Harley copy as she has done many miles on a FatBoy but eventually found it too heavy to manoeuvre. I got that one down to about 660mm, but I couldn't ride it without being very careful on corners - not a bike for the Pyrenees.

Anyone got a short sidestand for a F650 twin for sale? Might be easier to cut and re weld the existing one?

Nothing ever seems easy! The new shock has arrived, so decided to fit it straight away, only to find that I need a special tool to undo the lower shock bolt. It is essential (as far as I can tell) a T55 Torx, but it has to have a super long shaft as it has to go through a hole in the swinging arm (about 70mm). Does anyone know where I can get one of these please? as googling has come up with nothing.

Isn't it just a torx bit which fits on a socket set extension?

If you remove the rear chain guard bolt and loosen the front you can lift it out the way for better access...

Thanks folks - just bought a kit of 100mm torx bits, so bottom now released, but how do you get the top out of the rubber.

Very amateur mechanic here, but willing to have a go.

... you were a subscriber I would have sent you a PM containing details of where (in West Devon) you could bring your wife and try one out :)

Shorter shocks and stanchions is the basic answer, along with a low seat if needed, which it is for my 5ft (claimed) wife

I am now a subscriber, as I have found this a very useful forum - my only delay was because I have been a member of many other forums and there seemed little more than bickering going on, so wanted to check it out first. Thanks already to all those who have offered very useful advice.

Low Springs and Stands For Sale

So I have finally got the spring and stands changed on my F800GS; after a protracted delay while HyperPro first 'forgot' my order, and then sent the wrong spring!!
So, anyway, all sorted now which means I have the following for sale:

HyperPro front and rear progressive springs, 50mm lower than standard
Centre and side stands (OE on the F650GS) to match the lowered springs.
Asking £150 for the stands and £100 for the springs.
All approx 30,000 miles.

Bye then

Stephen Thomson
