I've been looking for a pair of boots that tick all the boxes when I'm away touring... I tend to head for the mountains Alps/Pyrennes but this year its Norway :D

In the past I have struggled with suitable footwear with restricted space in panniers, as I like to do a lot of walking when I get to my destination..

Not any more thanks to Kev C, he's worn simalar boots to these for years and really rates then so I thought I'd give them a go and so far I'm really impressed with :thumb2

- Walking boot comfort
- Loads of ankle protection
- Goretex 100% waterproof

They're not cheap at £140 from www.springfields.co.uk but now at least I won't have to waste space on a set of walking boots in my panniers

These boots are the dogs danglies, I havent entrusted my feet to owt else since my wife bought me a pair for work. Lowa Mountain - slightly lower witha softer cuff

worn them since last april, mon-fri & the odd weekend. awesome.

only thought about bike use is that they have thick soles so feel is reduced slightly, and they take some getting used to for gearchange. (on the plus side I can touch the ground easier in these!)

she got mine for around 150 euros in the PRI shop

This post just comes at the right time. :clap

Have a pair of semi combat boots for the bike but past their sell by date.

Thought about a pair of Altbergs http://www.altberg.co.uk/Web/motorcycle1.jsp although they have the extra bit across the gear change position the price was putting me off.

Just orderded a pair of the Lowa boots especially as scottykm says, "on the plus side I can touch the ground easier in these!"

Me 30 inch inside leg and 1200 Adv

+1 for Altberg. My son got a pair some months ago for 'an arduous course' he was doing in the army. Absolutely brilliant quality / comfort and the service was second to none.

Oh, and they are handmade in Yorkshire.:thumb

Had altberg, nice boots but they had a really hard sole, no shock absorbtion at all!

And Uncle T, same as, altho I have the low seat fitted

How tall are they?
I wear a pair of pro boots but I get an annoying draft up the legs of my leathers (ahem) so having a longer boot would help - considering the Altbergs but those are cheaper

pipster,

I prefer the " combat " style boot.

The last 3 years I have worn Magnum pro's . Comfortable and waterproof .. exelent kit IMO. However after 3 years the soles started to split and I wanted a bit more protection whilst riding but still be all day comfortable when off it. I only own 2 pairs of footware , the boots and 1 pair of trainers so they have to be comfy
I had tried a pair of motorcycle boots but couldn't change gear on the bike as I was not used to the rigid ankle.

In the end I opted for Alt-berg. I rode up got measured and waited 7 weeks for them to be made. When I picked them up I just took off the Magnums and ( the guy at the factory threw them on the gardners fire outside ) I put the Alt-bergs on and I have worn them 10 + hours every day sinse then. ( I come to work on the bike and wear them with a suit !!

They were comfy from the start , 100 % waterproof and I have never had cold feet
whilst wearing them and have the added bonus of some protection built in .. The service is fantastic too . One of the main reasons I bought from them is they service the boot if you need it . They will strip them down to component parts and repair/rebuild them back to as new.... for approx £40 !!

BTW I specified the thicker softer sole ( I need all the height I can get an an adv' )
Though they told me it wasn't as hard wearing as standard.

For me I would never consider any other boot for walking / leisure or riding , hope this might help

Cheers

H6
