What inside leg do you have as I have a 2012 and I'm vertically challenged.

I'm just around 5 11.... but was wondering what the differences were in height between models ?

umper lumper

in 2013 I sat on a factory lowered 1200gs, in the dealers showroom. and I could reach the ground with both feet easy. I am 5'7" with 29" leg. but I ended up with a 2014 factory lowered F700gs. wife and I tour Europe easily, with vario luggage, and bigger GS screen. 75 mpg.

At 5' 11" I doubt you will have any problems. You can fit GS seats to a GSA which are lower and narrower or if you are challenged like myself you can fit a low GS seat which makes a considerable difference.

At 5ft 11" you'll have no worries on a GS or GSA. I doubt you'll get your feet flat on the floor but not many people do. I'm 6ft and on tiptoes on my GSA but do have a wide sargent seat and it's never been an issue.

The factory lowered ones look plain odd in my opinion but you can get lowered suspension if that's what you think you need.

At 5'7" and 29 inside leg I have a 'plain odd one' :D but unless you've got short legs a normal one should suit you fine. There are more standard ones available too, so more choice

I have an "odd" one too - 2012, mine is in the foreground, 5"6 - 29 leg, Alex has a "non odd" one (new triple black LC - he's 5'11. As you can see my feet are in contact with the ground by the toes only, however i find the seat width restricts the ability to get a better footing so i am in the process of making a "narrow" seat from a low seat i bought on flabby...no doubt that will make it a little more odd ;)

My brother's bike was sold with a Low Low Kahedo seat. Apart from scrunching the rider's legs it was actually not very safe to use. Pulling away, your feet could easily get folded up. Thank goodness for boots with tough ankles. A high price to pay to be able to paddle the bike backwards.

He went pretty immediately to a standard GS seat, but now runs a GSA height Kahedo seat. He is 5ft 10ins tall.

I'm 5ft 8ins and run a GS height Kahedo seat. TBH, I could do with 10mm off the ride height but certainly no more.

Unfortunately the bare seat height is only part of the story. In use, my standard GS height Kahedo feels lower than the Kahedo GSA version. But in terms of reach to the floor the GSA height version does not feel "that" much higher. However, in my case, the "GSA" version is just the wrong side of OK for floor reach but it's close.

The issue is seat shape. Mine is a definite pan shape so legs get spread wider. Deep pan Sargent and Corbin for example are hopeless for me. The pan shape stops me reaching the floor and the edge digs into my thighs.

Borrow a few seats to try before you settle on what to buy. All except for Sargent (which a kind GSer let me try), I bought used seats then sold them again if they didn't suit me.

The other thing i find with a lowered bike is the ground clearance, boots, foot pegs and centre stand all get grounded, and i have also taken the underside off the rear brake leaver with hard cornering... i think with the new TKC70's just fitted i might get the engine bars down :)

My GSA (with standard springs) has a ground off rear brake pedal. A stainless version would be a handy farkle - no rust at least. I don't use the centre stand but it would be well chamfered by now if I did.

I fancy some of these on the cylinder heads and scrap the OEM engine bars.

I'm 5'10" with a 31" inside leg and I mange fine with a standard seat. I have a low seat and although that gives me a firmer footing I don't like the cramped legs and the bars feel too high. I also have Fastaway footpegs that give me an extra 20mm of legroom. I think you could manage without looking for a factory lowered bike- it would severely restrict your choice in the used market.

If you're dead set on a lower bike and are feeling flush then Wilbers suspension can be specified lower then standard.

I have a 2011 low version, I am 28 inside leg and the seat height is fine, that said I found the std seat really uncomfortable, not enough padding, so I bought a sargent low seat which is really good but does increase the height somewhat, but still manageable.
