Hi all

Apologies for the lack of knowledge, I'm soon to be a brand new rider of a 2021 1250 GS Triple black (hopefully!) I'm just about ready to put a deposit down but I've just found out it's a lowered chassis.

I'm 6ft and 30" inside leg and 17 stone. I do intend to put luggage and pillion on in the near future for touring. It does have the Dynamic ESA if that makes a difference. Will this be a problem? Are there options to make it suitable?

It's a really good example so I would like to make it work if possible. It's a bit far away for me to go and take a quick look but a photo with a chap on it of similar build and height to me looks comfortable on it.

Also worth noting this will be my first 1k+ cc bike.

Any advice is appreciated.

Matt

With a 30" leg you should be OK. The seat has 2 positions anyway. And you can get thicker seats too. The GS is a heavy lump, but carries it's wt. well. If you like it... Get it.

As above, you will be ok. I'm 6'1" and 32" inside leg and it's just right. I've been riding bigger bikes for 30 odd years and still sometimes nearly get caught out. In fact I think you're probably better off with this.

Sorry, meant to say mine is standard, but lower would still be ok.

I’d say the lowered chassis is a bonus (y)

The seat to peg distance is the same as a standard bike, just the shocks are a bit shorter so it’s easier to get your feet down

As already mentioned, the center of gravity is nice and low on boxers so they’re relatively easy to manage

Buy it, ride it, then you’ll see if you want to change anything or not, bar risers, lower seat etc

They’re fantastic bikes for touring 2 up with luggage (y)

I agree, I’m 6’1” with a 34 inside leg, my 1250 is the lowered chassis model, I find it easier to get on and off, particularly having had a new knee last year. As said above the seat to footrest height doesn’t change, so comfort is the same. If I were buying another I’d seek out the lowered model.

You should be ok. I’m 5’ 11” with a 31” leg and have a reduced height R1250 GS Adventure. It’s perfect. I can flat foot with the suspension on soft. Seats, and I have or had a mixture of about five. All were medium height.
Seat position high front low back. I found myself sliding forward when seat set on high or low front and back.

I previously owned a couple of standard height R1200GS Adventures and they were both too tall.

Really appreciate the replies, you have put my mind at rest. Pic below of the bike, I'm like a small child at Xmas :-)

You`re tall but with short legs, i`m short with short legs - but also with also 30" inside leg, and have a low chassis GSA.
With the ESA set to `auto` it will take into account the all-up weight whether solo rider, + pillion or pillion with luggage and automatically adjust the rear spring preload so don`t think that because it`s a low chassis it`ll be lacking in suspension travel or bottom out. It`ll be fine. You could also set it to max height if you prefered that.

No such thing as a lowered chassis, its a factory low , option 499 all lowering is done via the suspension 30mm lowered units F&R

Then you have a lowered seat, side and centre stand

30" inside leg shouldn't be a problem,

ive got 28" inside leg and i could get the balls of my feet down with a factory low & an ultralow seat

Ha ha, legend! I appreciate the heads up! You won't get me off here now

Looks very attractive & I see the vendors are having the service regime brought UTD: -

Yes, they are having the 12,000 mile service done and MOT before i have it so should be good to go :-)

No problem at all, you’re welcome to stick around. There’s a huge fountain of knowledge & decent banter to be had here :thumb2
And.... Lots of goodies come up for sale too... If you find you need a different ht. seat for instance.. 😉

If you don't like it that low when you start riding it, denso will take the shims out of the shocks to put it to standard height, he did mine, and your shocks will be fresh also.
You will need to change the side stand at the least though.

Thanks to everyone for your advice. Bike is now paid for and I collect it next Saturday. My first ride on it will be a 140 mile ride home back from the dealer 😨
Weather is looking nice for you. Enjoy your new steed. 😎
