I am a mechanical f__wit. And this BMW thing is all new to me.

Done what I thought was a good service.

Changed Engine oil and filter
Changed final drive oil
Changed gearbox oil
New Air filter
New plugs
Adjusted tappets
checked brakes (New rear disc)
Checked poly belt which looks ok.

Awaiting service of rear shock.

Is there anything I have missed?

Now looking through this and other BMW sources I read a lot about lubing splines. Although I can't find a mention of this in the Service manual nor can I find an idiots guide with lots of pictures. (I work best that way) (Monkey see, monkey do)

Do I need to do this?

Bike is a 2001 GS with 62000 miles on the clock.

What Vern sez :thumb

The only extra thing I can think of is changing the brake and clutch fluids (depending on when it was last done). Easy to do and costs buttons. I do mine (brakes not clutch as its an 1100) every year as part of a full service in the winter.

The spline lube thing inevitable involves some dismantling (quite a lot of dismantling if it's the gearbox input shaft although some on ADV have apparently managed to sort of do it with long cotton buds through the starter motor opening). If you ever need to remove the final drive / swingarm, take the opportunity to lube the drive shaft splines then - likewise with the input shaft if you ever have to remove the gearbox.

I disagree, I have been researching this topic on ADV and it appears you must lube your splines at least before every ride, otherwise your FD bearing will fail and take out your Hall sensor, which will then cause your clutch master to die, which then causes "buffetting" and a lot of concern over which pants to wear while riding.:blast:thumb

Yeah, but apart from that, don't bother until you have it in bits:thumb2
