Hi guys

Isn’t the norm I know but would like to getaway on the cheap and was wondering if anyone has ever tried soft luggage on an 1150GS. Advice appreciated.

On another note I know several of you out there have Sidi Couriers, anyone experienced problems changing up the box? Had no problem when wearing DMs but just can’t get the lever adjusted to enable changing using the pad on top of toe, end up hooking up using the side of the sole. Doesn’t always make for faultless changes and smooth progress if you know what I mean.

I sometimes use a tailpack for short trips and also have the Ventura rack, brackets and soft Pack Bag,which works well,if I decide not to take the BMW Panniers.

I have been using some Oxford Sports panniers while I save up for some of Vern's. They are okay to get by with but are a lot of faffing around. With the rear end being quite shallow they don't sit to well and have to be mounted high up to avoid the exhaust. They are far more suited to the Fireblade.

I place a rag under them to protect the paintwork, only last weekend this came adrift and dangled into the rear caliper. I only discovered it after I pulled into my drive and could smell the burning!

Boots/gearchange

I found that when wearing motocross-style boots, my size 10's used to catch on the sidestand lug (ie the bit you put your toe on to push the stand down.

I used a vice, a blowtorch and a large hammer to alter the shape from a parallelogram to a triangle, which gave my foot just enough space to get under the lever.

I'll post a pic later.

Was that mod to your foot or the sidestand lug??? :)

SIDI COURIER

I got some of these just four days ago. Yes I had the same problem, but after about 100 miles and loads of gear changes they seem to have softened up a little. I haven't adjusted the gear leaver, but I am now able to get my toe under. By the way I take size 11.

The mod was to the stand lug:D

Pic attached as promised...

soft luggage

I bought a set of "Oxford first time" luggage, they fit really well
and clear the exhaust. 42 litres fully extended. £30 I paid
come with buges, straps, and raincovers, just the job, they also
sell a tailpack in the same range.

I have the Sidi black rain evo's and it wasn't until I had a foot op that I noticed the reinforcing only covers the toes not the big toe joint area normaly used to change up.
I bought a pair of Alpinstars Tech 8's yesterday to protect me manky feet, now they will be a totally different prospect. Not even sure I can use them on the GS yet, had to adjust the gear and rear brake lever lots on the WR though.
Looking at my GP Tech Alpinstars, Sidi rains and the Tech 8's I come to the conclusion that the first two would not protect much in a spill, the Tech's could take a steam roller though.

Oh an Hein Gerriky do a throwover set of square fully adjustable panniers for £40 which seem to work on the GS.

I've found the GS1 boots ok so far, had one strap replaced under warranty, and take a while to get set up nicely, but the second best pair of boots I've had (after my Altbergs - which are completely different).

As to soft luggage, I prefer the sportsbike option - namely a small pillion with a Berhaus 100 litre rucksack on her back :)

Sore toe

I've got the sidi couriers a few months back and a very sore big toe joint...I had hope that they would protect it but it is still sore and one of the straps has broken - the bike shop on the A23 where I bought them showed no interest in replacing it and said that I would have to order two at full cost despite them being less than a year old.

How are the GS1's in wet weather? Keep your tootsies dry?

I usually wear Seal-Skinz (aka Porelle Drys) under my old FT's..... as they (FT!) were waterproof for about a week.... I gave up after getting them changed three times.....

Thanks

Thanks for the feedback guys, I look into the Oxford first time luggage roadrider as it was clearing the exhaust I was concerned about.:)
