I’ve got a 2017 GS and I’ve fitted a Vario top box.

I might need more capacity a couple of times a year.

What are my options? Vario panniers are £600 a pair which is a bit steep for something that’s hardly going to be used.

Presumably there are soft bags sold somewhere but would they work on a GS?

What about a dry bag on the rear seat? Lomo do a range of sizes and only cost around £30. Couple of Rok straps ( other options are available) and your sorted.

I’ve got a pair of Vario panniers you can have for £300. They have inner bags as well. I’m up at Motorrad Central in Dalkeith Sat 18th. You could have a look and see what you think.

Check out LOMO bags ... they do quality kit, roll bags and straps. Also OVERBOARD are very similar .. I have one of their big roll bags from my Honda days and it is utterly brilliant.. big capacity, waterproof and fits well on the back seat .. can't go wrong.:)

Looks good, 55 quid, out of stock til December :(

2nd for Bumot, bought the hard ones and I think they are great. When you compare them to BMW and the build quality, hands down they are far better.

Hi, If Scotsrick dont have them i would be interested for my new 2016 lc. The Varios that is! :blast

I'm interested in these, any pictures ?

Lomo if you can get them, I was so surprised how they were for a 4 day trip

Used one of these for a 4 day trip and more than ample if sensible. Also have a decent tank bag.

I have full set of varios but they add alot of weight to the bike and when making progress you can feel them. Yes they are secure but if some scote wants to nick and smell my dirty pants more fool them. I think panniers are more likely to be broken in to.

I’m a big fan of the givi trekker series, because you can keep the boxes and use them on other bikes, you just need to buy new frames

I use a Givi top case and have a choice of 42ltr Alu or 52 maxima for long trips and have used vario panniers once or twice a year but storage is the issue. My new bike arriving this week has adventure rails on a std bike for some reason so I can either buy cheap replacement rear hangers for varios or soft bags on the rails. So like Scotsrick I'd be interested in any comments / recommendations for soft bags especially as the pack away so well.

I just bought a set of Vario’s from a poster on here.

For occasional use I can just clip them off and on and I’ve got storage space for them.

It really comes down to price if it’s only a couple of times a year.

I have the same - excellent! Only modification I’ve made is an approx 2” wide aluminium strip so if not fully stuffed ( unusual!!) it doesn’t droop! (ooh err missis!)

It did occur to a chum on here and myself that given the very small time panniers are actually required by perhaps the majority of users, there is an opportunity for someone to hire them out. Obviously needs a key to go with but easily done.

So the question is, how would you price/value say a 14 day hire of panniers of the full set of three?
